Assessing 16 week old Bresse pullets this morning. I sorted through a group of ten to see if one would stand out as a keeper. The winner is in the first pen on the right.
I chose the bird with the most breadth overall, the best spacing from breast bone to pelvic arch and the best spacing and structure of the pelvic bones. With all that going for her it's not a surprise that she also turned out to be the heaviest of the group.
Here's a video I like that demonstrates a helpful "checklist" for poultry breeding stock selection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZaHQV22zqM
