Day 2 of point of lay olive egger backcrosses integrated into younger coop of lemon Owlbeards and a couple Indio Gigante females). First night the olive eggers were nestled right in between all the rest - but seems like they’ve determined they’re a bit better and should stand (sleep) apart! One very lemony rooster I had to keep to see how he grows out!

Lemon Owlbeards. This is my original flock, hens are molting (and the rooster has lost his tail feathers). These hens are smaller hens, but these roosters grow so much larger than the ladies!

Our 6-6 1/2 month old owlbeards (the pullets). Hopefully will be laying soon since the mothers started laying before 6 months - but it is that time of year! Rooster is related to their mothers, their father from a different source (though related as some degree with only one imported line into the us)!

Chicken tractor effect on grass! 10x12 chicken tractor lived once a week (it’s a PITA because I have hardware cloth wrapped cattle panels that need to be moved and weighed down). We only use this for growing out chickens and will usually have 20 in here (depending on age). The bigger the get the more often the move!

Not so patient! They are just waiting on their turn. The marans and legbars will jump up to get the treats before I’m ready!

I can’t believe this lady is still laying - at least every other day! She is an olive egger (and the only one that lays lighter green eggs). A couple of weeks and she’ll no longer be bare on her back!

I see so many people with eggs for sale this time of year! With the decreased daylight hours and molt I wonder what I’m doing wrong! My worst week for egg collection is right around Christmas. A week later I’ll go from 0 to 6 and a week later to a full dozen! All this to say climate matters! I’m fortunate enough to not have to deal with cold winters - but our summers in SC are brutal (heat and high humidity).

Not sure where this guy will fit in (if he grows out well) - but he is so lemony down to his tail! I moved all the females (and a couple other chicken breeds to this one coop for the winter). Went back to the now rooster coop and had to pull this guy out! This is day 1 in the new coop so still getting situated!
