Pizza A Modo Mio SC

Jeremy’s review: The Roman style is an experience. A great one at that. I have never had it before so can’t really compare it. It’s very tasty. It’s definitely going to be one of my go tos for a lunch pie.

There was zero flop. It was perfect. The undercarriage was cooked perfectly. The crispy texture was pleasant. The cheese to sauce ratio is different. Can’t really explain it.

I give it a 8.2 with the possibility of a 8.3 if I added cold raw onion afterwards.

Perfect setup would be to order two and have them double cut. Take it to the beach. 🏝️

There is quite possibly a new “Best Detroit” in the Lowcountry. I love Toni's Detroit Style Pizza in Mt. Pleasant and it WAS the standard to be graded against. Rotolo's has an amazing pie also, but I just had the Roni from Pizza A Modo Mio SC from two of their locations. Hands down, you’ve gotta get this. The only complaint I’ve heard is that the sauce was a bit sweeter than others, but I’m fine with it. Solid 8.0

Trevor's review: The roman was surprising since we've never had anything like it before. Very crisp, light sauce and olive oil create a very light and easy to eat pie perfect for the summer. The slight sweetness of Mike's sauce plays really well in this pie paired with the oil and cheese. Not 100% sure how to rate it since I've never had anything like it but it was very good. I'll give it a 7.9 only because I've never had anything like it but I'm also not sure ill have a better roman.

The Detroit style for me is what really shined. As a Detroit native growing up on Louies, Buddies and Shields this pie made me feel like I was back home. Wonderfully executed with a consistently thick cheese crust around the exterior from the brick cheese in a lloyds pan. Very crispy and airy dough makes for a delicious experience. The first time we had it I thought the sauce was too sweet but this time it played much better. Not sure if it was due to being fresh this time or what. But this pie is right up there with Louies for me. It is an easy 9 in my book. If you are a Detroit fan you'll love this, and if you've never had one before give this a try.

Sadly, we are unable to review a pizzeria for April. Schedule conflicts and family emergencies have dealt us a defeat. May, we're coming for you. Definitely a BOLO for May.

Alright, April and May are just around the corner. We’re aiming to hit Pizza A Modo Mio SC for their Roman by Mike Pitera, and Fireside SC for the Cup & Char by Chef Sean. These two are going to be on a BOLO for sure.

Steel City Pizza Co.
Trev - I like the pizza here, it is a little off profile for what we normally go for with the addition of provolone which I know Jeremy doesn’t like but I think it adds a nice little punch, plus I like how it melts.

Their sauce is good, slightly above average however the dough is well above average. High quality toppings as well.

Overall I’d give it a 7.6. The service was fantastic, we tried to get 1 pizza half cheese half pepperoni and they made a full pepperoni so the server informed us we would be getting a 2nd pizza that was just cheese on the house.

Jeremy - I am NOT a fan of provolone. I was a bit hesitant 😕. The pepperoni pizza was cooked perfectly. Good undercarriage and dough had a great flavor profile. The sauce was subtle. The cheese blend murdered it for me. The dough would be in the high 7’s. The sauce a solid 7.5 but when I factor in the cheese blend it tanks. I’m a 6.4 for this pie. It’s edible’ish. Service was amazing.

Didn’t have Trev with me, and not a 🍕, but holy 🐄

I’m not exaggerating when I say these were the best garlic knots I’ve ever had in my life.

Stopped by Hawthornes NY Pizza & Bar on Carmel Road in Charlotte, and these things were absolutely unreal. Perfectly baked, soft inside, just the right crisp on the outside, and loaded with garlic, butter, and seasoning. I had an experience. Sure a 2 1/2 hour drive.

I’ve had garlic knots all over the place, but these are on a completely different level. If you’re anywhere near Charlotte, do yourself a favor and order them. You can thank me later. 🍕🧄

Alright folks, don’t sleep on this one. Global Pizza nestled inside Godwin's Beer Hall is a gem.

Menu claims they’re 12” but it’s more like 13” and it’s better that way. We ordered a cheese pie and a pepperoni pie.

We tried the cheese first and the undercarriage was a little light but the texture of the dough was great. They use top-notch cheese and you can tell when you bite into it. We gave it a 7.5 for cheese.

The pepperoni is where it’s at. We’ve become spoiled when it comes to crisp and cup pepperoni that when a place doesn’t have it we frown internally. Lucky for us and you, they have crisp and cup. The amount of pepperoni is generous and certainly appreciated. This pie beats the others locally for a bar sized pie. It’s not a bar pie, but pie sold in a bar. Got it? The flavor is delicious and definitely a top go to. Here we rate it a 7.8.

Overall after meeting the owners and touring their kitchen they get an 8.0. Why? Come see for yourself.

Tikka Masala Pizza (India)
Braised chicken, tikka masala sauce, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, fresh cilantro, garlic-yogurt drizzle.
