If I could have picked the opening day, it would have been today since it is National "White Bear" Day, National Retro Day and falls on my favorite number! Next February 27th calls for a celebration! 🐻‍❄️🩵🧁✨️
I've had a lot of people ask, what's the meaning behind white bear? We live on white bear drive so hence the name. From my research of the area, the road was named after the White Bear Hotel, which no longer graces the intersection of Bloomingdale, but was a prominent building for over 150 years and had connection to the Switchback railroad. In Native American culture, white bears, are revered as spiritual messengers, symbols of peace, and remnants of the last Ice Age. They are not polar bears, but rare white-furred black bears, considered sacred by tribes. According to Indigenous legend, the Raven (creator) made one in every ten black bears white to remind people of the time when glaciers covered the land. They symbolize peace, balance, and a, link to a, time when animals were white-coated. Seeing one is believed to bring good fortune, and they are seen as protectors that guide people to safety.

While we are stilling waiting on the governing bodies...
Let's do some introductions! My name is Kim and I am the owner of White Bear Baking Company. My high school sweetheart and husband Mark has been the one helping build and create this beautiful space! He is a LTC in the Army Reserves and is an enterpreneur himself, running his woodworking and cabinetry business Rustic Cut Woodworking. And if he's not there, you will probably find him volunteering at the fire company. We reside in Summit Hill with our kid Palmer and 2 dogs (Cannoli and Maverick) and a hamster named Bread. By training, I graduated with a degree in chemistry prior to getting my masters of medical science. I work full time in the emergency room as a physician assistant. I've been known in the hospital as the "PA that bakes". Baking has something I've always enjoyed doing and I love the science of it! I have to give credit to my mom for alot of my baking knowledge as I learned so much from her - she makes the best apple dumplings! We had this vision to expand a "side hustle" into something more. This venture has been quite the project over the past year and a half since we started and we are oh so close! From an unfinished two car garage packed full of storage to a retro colorful baking space, we can't wait to show you the transformation. I hope to bring local, made from scratch baked goods and other sweets to the area. It is always a honor to be asked to make a cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc for your celebrations! I baked and donated some chocolate peanut butter cupcakes topped with edible wafer fire truck toppings, and made a few batches homemade chicken pot pie!
