What’s on todays plate ….. moving the culled and cut trees from the field. Don’t worry giant white pine lovers; we didn’t take them all but we had to take some out to allow the sun to get in to the smaller trees.

And so it begins…..mowing off the tall grass we left to protect the baby trees this winter. Looks like they faired pretty well. Still had some deer damage but not as bad as I was expecting. This winter was hard on all the animals and they ate where they could find food.

Happy National Agriculture Day! The past two weeks have been full throttle here. We kicked off our spring frenzy by grinding out the stumps left behind from the Christmas harvest, we then culled and cut the over grown trees and those that were not thriving. Next we marked the new planting sites by measuring and marking where each tree would be planted. On Wednesday we drove 6 hrs round trip to PA to pick up our baby trees. We ended the past week planting a couple thousand baby Christmas trees on Saturday (with an amazing crew of hard working young people that we can never thank enough). These baby trees that were planted will be ready for harvest in 2033 or later. There is still plenty of work to be done this spring; picking up downed branches, trimming, spraying, and then the mowing starts but we are off to a good start!

We hate to end early, but we're so grateful for all of you who showed up the past two weekends to support our farm!

Our only wish is that we could grow more trees FASTER so more families could enjoy the magic here at Santa’s Woods!
