Wild N Rooted WV Family of 4 with a few 🐕 🐇🐥🐐... Sharing some wild things and rooted things. Home of a Mini Lamancha and Kinder dairy herd, Rex rabbits, and a flock of chickens.

On a whim I also threw 3 of these mini seeds in this year too that rockchimneyfarm passed us.
It took forever for them to come up and also for the fruit to ripen. But they are ready!

June loved them, I still dont like cantelope, nor do the boys.... so she gets them all 😆

Guuuuuys, we may actually get a pumpkin or two! And good eating ones.

I threw caution to the wind and put 3 seeds in our goat manure pile this spring. Usually we dont try for any vining plants as the bore bugs just drive us nuts. But they seem to have forgotten about us this year 🙏
We made a hammock for one to help support it on the fence and will do the same for a 3rd.

No idea what the pumpkins plans are for the bush it decided to climb. 😆 but hey im not one to curb its dreams. And its out of the reach of the goats yet.

Okay give me your no fail tomato preservation ideas. I rather not can but also kinda want some canned salsa. Or maybe pi...

We had a big storm blow through yesterday that dropped some branches. Tree hay is the goats favorite roughage. They have been browsing all day.

Apparently the Oberhasli doe Cedar makes a good stool.

Garden update... tomatoes are rolling in finally. No more blossoms end rot but still some cats eye happening. Not much we can do with these 90+ days except pray and enjoy them while we have them.

Tiny little cuke on the deck is trying, will see if it grows. Next year we may just say to heck with it and plant some in the beds. Normally we have a lot beetles so we dont bother. But the kids love cuke.

We have gotten 2 bell peppers so far, praying they keep at it despite the weather. The kids can eat one in a sitting each so I would love them to be plentiful. Couple snacking peppers coming in here and there too, taking their snacking name seriously 😆

We threw a couple pumpkin seeds in our manure pile for fun and they are doing great so far. Stay away beetles!!!

So far the good intentions gardens are producing, a good straw mulching and layer of goat p**p has proved helpful in keeping weeds down.

*sigh* June was dairy month I hear, and with it came plenty of dairy problems... one of which has me still dumping milk ...

*sigh* June was dairy month I hear, and with it came plenty of dairy problems... one of which has me still dumping milk 6+ weeks in. Praying things are resolved next week and Tetra can be added back to the milk string. If I can find the energy I will share all about it, but there is a good chance I may not get to it for a bit.

I sailed through my first 3 years of owning dairy goats with very few problems, this year has made up for it. And while things could be worse for sure, its still enough to break spirits some days.

I really hate dumping milk, feels like so much wasted work... not to mention there are families out there who could benefit from this milk. Baby goats are nearly weaned, so while I could pasteurized and feed to them I dont know that I want to risk it and its just more work. The gardens already get plenty of fertilizer so plants don't need it either and chickens we dont want to feed meds to so they can only get it between treatments. But hopefully soon we are back to normal. Until then I will keep milking and feeding the woods. 😆

So far we are doing okay keeping up with our 9 raised beds 🙏 but its not July yet 😆

Chris' tomato bed (1st pic) looks amazing and is thriving.

We had more rain coming Sunday so I took some time to clean goat shelters out so they had new dry areas to hang out. All that p**p went onto the raised beds. One benefit of goat and rabbit p**p is its considered a "cool" fertilizer and thus can be added straight away. Hoping the rain will slow feed these plants some great nutrients. We are low on the bean and flower count despite planting a month ago so we threw more of them in just about anywhere. Praying they grow fast. There were some tomatoes that got some sort of leaf spot or discoloration so I rescued those and added them to the back bed, and so far they look great now though a bit wild. The kids raked some old goat hay and we threw it on for mulch. Hopefully it helps hold moisture in the bed and maybe even slow the weeds down. 🤷‍♀️ im not a gardener guys.

The theme this year is turning into "go ahead and plant it and throw some p**p on it. Maybe it will grow maybe not, but we have nothing to lose" 😉
