Yesterday was a hard farming day. Tim and i installed a long hay rack that spans the length of the sheep shed and almost holds a whole round bale. It wouldnāt have been particularly difficult, but it involved traipsing around from one end of the farm to the other lugging t-posts, going up and down stairs in the barn to get tools, etc. An all day project, and weāre going to install another in the corn crib. We have two new LGDs on our farm: Charlie, a one year old Anatolian Shepherd, and Moses a two-year old Great Pyrenees. Our other LGDs Katie and Beau really have become porch potatoes, so we felt we needed a little more youthful protection for my flock. We got Charlie about 2 months ago and Moses just came to us this week. You can see how theyāve become fast friends! Welcome boys š

After moving to a Middleburg farm in early 2011 and acquiring a variety of fiber sheep, Bridget developed her skills as a spinner, weaver and needle felting artist. Several years ago she purchased a farm in Summit Point, WV, moved her flock of fiber sheep, and established a wool shop where she sells her paintings, yarn, roving and fleeces from her sheep. She utilizes all of her animalās fiber to develop rich works of art and lovely spun yarn.
āI feel it is a blessing that each animal in my flock contributes their fleece to create an individual work of art, whether it is a skein of hand spun yarn, a wool painting or a woven textile. I get a kick out of looking at one of my pieces and saying āOh, Marge and Aidin helped me make that.ā Each rich texture and varied color of a particular animal inspires a creation, and each sheep is nurtured with love and respect while providing daily inspiration for me.ā
Bridget Brown graduated in 1984 from Pennsylvania College of Art and Designās Fine Art Program. After many years of working in mediums such as watercolor and pastels and enjoying a successful career as a graphic designer, she discovered the intriguing world of the fiber arts. She now teaches spinning, weaving and needle felting to others, including workshops at Yarnability in Charles Town, WV, Pins and Needles Fiber Shop in Berryville, VA and to students at various area schools. She is a juried member of the Over the Mountain Studio Tour, VP of the Loudoun Valley Sheep Producerās Association, and Chair of the Bluemont Fairās Fiber Field. She is also chairs the Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festivalās Juried Fleece Sale.
