Scooter and her whipped cream, she absolutely loves it, and she knows the sound of the can. She also knows how to get it when I don't have it out. We spoke with her vet about this, he laughed, i said she's old and it's calories.

Homemade plant feeding ideas can sound helpful, but most plants do best with healthy soil first and gentle feeding second. 🌿
What I’ve learned:
☕ coffee grounds are better composted than dumped straight around roots
🥚 eggshells break down slowly, so they’re not a fast calcium fix
🍌 banana peels add organic matter over time, but they are not a complete fertilizer
🧪 for hungry vegetables, compost plus a balanced fertilizer usually works better than random kitchen scraps
Simple and consistent usually beats complicated every time.

Wrong Spacing, Wasted Harvest: Match These 6 Crops to Their Real Distance

Seed packets show minimum spacing for field rows with tractors between them. You're not farming acres—you're growing food in raised beds. Intensive spacing changes everything.

TOMATOES
Seed packet: 36" apart → Intensive: 24" in raised beds
Closer spacing creates full canopy that shades soil, reduces watering, and produces more per square foot. The roots compete, but the yield wins.

LETTUCE
Seed packet: 12" apart → Intensive: 6" interplanted
Tight lettuce becomes living mulch. Bare soil = wasted space + weeds. Double your harvest, half your weeding.

CARROTS
Seed packet: 3" rows → Intensive: 2" grid pattern
Forget rows. Grid planting fills the entire bed. Same square footage, 50% more carrots.

BUSH BEANS
Seed packet: 6" rows → Intensive: 4" grid
Beans fix nitrogen—more plants = more soil food. Tight spacing supports each other, reduces staking.

RADISH
Seed packet: 2" rows → Intensive: Scatter-sown broadcast
Stop making rows. Broadcast radish seed, rake lightly. They fill every gap as living mulch between slower crops.

PEPPERS
Seed packet: 18" apart → Intensive: 12" in raised beds
Root competition triggers stress response = more fruiting. Tighter peppers produce more per plant.

The seed packet shows minimum. Not optimum.
