Widdoss Farm & Apiary Welcome to our farm - located in Sunbright TN we just planted a lot of fruit trees and can't wait to What the heck were we thinking? In April 2021, we sold it!

In April 2014 we bought our farm - 39 acres in Greenville AL, no friends, no family living here, just dreams and visions of getting out of the rat race of life and finding a simplier way of living. We work harder now, but knowing where your food came from, what you are eating and that you did it yourself is well worth the reward! A little sad and heartbreaking after all the hard work that went into it to make it ours, but we decided since our family wasn’t moving to us, we needed to move to them…..here we go again – Welcome to Widdoss Farm & Apiary in Sunbright TN

Workday on the Farm: Preg Checking, Tagging & Working the Herd! 🐂🌾

Today was working day at Widdoss Farm, and we got down to business!

We spent the day working through the herd to handle a few essential chores:

🩺 Pregnancy Checking: Checking our cows to ensure a healthy next generation.
🏷️ Tagging & Health Checks: Getting this year’s calves set up with their tags and off to a strong start.
🐂 Banding: Working through our young bulls.

It takes a lot of coordination, patience, and good teamwork to get everyone through smoothly, but days like today keep the operation moving forward.

It looks like 12 are bred, we’ll retest the others in a few weeks.

🐝 Fresh Honey Update! 🍯
We’ve officially finished this year’s honey harvest! Between the drought and heat, the weather beat us out this season—keeping the bees inside their colonies to protect the hive instead of out collecting resources. As a result, our supply for this year is extremely limited.

Size: 1.5 lb bottle
Price: $15 (plus shipping)

Farm life really tests your patience sometimes! 🐮

We recently had a local vet out to look at one of our cows who’s been limping for over a month. Unfortunately, that visit left us with zero answers or help. Not wanting to leave her in pain, we loaded her up in the trailer and hauled her to a vet who has spent most of his career working with large animals.

Turns out, she had a tiny crack in her hoof that picked up a rock, which then got packed tight with dirt and created a real mess inside.
The vet got right to work—he thoroughly flushed the wound with iodine, gave her a few shots, and packed the hoof with antibiotics and a drawing salve.

She’s still limping for now as it heals up, but we are so relieved to finally have her on the mend and getting the right care. Keeping our fingers crossed for a fast recovery! 🙏🌾

The vet showed us what to do so if this ever happens again, we can do what is needed here on the farm.

Out with the old, extra pasture for the cows! 🐮✨

Two weeks ago, we officially said goodbye to our double-wide trailer. We auctioned it off a few months back, and watching it roll off the property was a true full-circle moment after living in it for almost 6 years while building our new house.

It served us so well, but opening up that land feels good. We don’t have immediate plans for the spot just yet, so in true farm fashion, we’re letting the grass grow and turning it over to the cattle! 🌿

The kitchen has been full steam ahead today 👩‍🍳. Between baking up fresh loaves of potato flake sourdough bread 🍞 and shredding cheese 🧀, we hit a brand-new homesteading milestone: two dehydrators running simultaneously! ♨️ The second one is currently holding a batch of homemade yogurt. 🥣

Morning from the kitchen at Widdoss Farm & Apiary! 🍑🥒☀️

It’s been a little while since our last post, but we’ve been hard at work keeping up with summer’s bounty!

Today’s kitchen adventures are all about preserving the season:

🍑 Fresh slices of ripe white peaches are loaded into the dehydrator, filling the house with the sweetest summer aroma.

🥒 Slices of fresh cucumbers are soaking up the afternoon rays outside for sweet sun pickles—letting nature do what it does best!

There is nothing quite like capturing the flavor of summer to enjoy down the road.
