🙌🏼 Today was an EXCITING day!!
If you’ve been following our page for awhile, you likely know by now that we are a special needs family. Our middle child, Ava, is medically fragile and ventilator dependent. For pretty much her entire life we have not been able to travel as a family.
A couple years ago we decided that we had to find a way to get out and live, and we knew that meant taking Ava on the road with us.
We dreamed of coming up with some kind of traveling rig that would make it fairly easy to do her complex medical cares while traveling (not an easy feat!)
When we began our search for the perfect travel trailer for our family, we wanted something that could easily haul all of Ava’s extensive medical equipment, as well as all of our e-bikes and other toys.
We needed a rig that would be able to keep her equipment charged, and also be able to sustain it for several days in a row without being hooked up to power.
For Kenny’s part, after researching RV’s and realizing the quality issues with some of them, he decided we really need to look at one with all aluminum build.
As I was doing an internet search for something that checked all of our boxes, we stumbled upon a company named Intech, located in Indiana. They offered factory tours, so we scheduled a tour last year (or maybe even in later 2024), but we were able to see every step of the build process. We were able to really see - first hand - the quality that went into each of their hand built toy haulers.
We were sold!
We started out looking at the Explore, from their Flyer-series, but we quickly realized that it just wasn’t quite bit enough for our needs. We decided that if we were going to take this step as an investment in our family’s life and mental health, that we needed something that would truly be ENJOYABLE to travel in.
So earlier this year we decided to go with the Intech Blackwing 830x. This bad boy has (3) Queen beds, (2) full size couches, a full kitchen, an 11’ garage area with a large ramp that folds down into a porch, on-board generator with solar back-up, full bath, full size fridge and freezer, and all sorts of cool features such as solid aluminum cabinetry with no wood anywhere. It’s so well made that you can literally spray it out with no worries of water ruining anything.
We already have our first camping trip planned in a few weeks. We are going to do a trial run at a place that’s close to home, to make sure we are good on medical supplies on the road, etc. Once we get that first trip under our belt, our family is OFF to do some traveling this summer!
We are planning trips to Cuyahoga National Park, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and….sometime later this summer…
💦 THE OCEAN!! 💦
I cannot even say enough how much our family needs this!
We plan to document as much of this journey as we can, just so you all can enjoy seeing some of our adventures away from the homestead, and also to see Ava actually get out and join the family.
Here’s the moment we walked toward our new Blackwing for the first time. It is truly a BEAUTIFUL toy hauler, travel trailer. I’ll include a link from the manufacturer if anyone is interested in the features and specs.
