A Tribute to our Mommas

From the very first wobbly steps, our Mommas are there— instinctively nudging and nurturing their babies. Patiently teaching them to eat, walk, and find their place in the herd.   

We’re grateful to witness this precious process—and to watch the Littles grow into Mommas and have babies of their own ♥️

Last Monday, Dollie birthed twin calves—stillborn. Dollie has always been a nurturing mother; the deaths were heartbreaking 💔

That night, at the farm of Clint Carl, Baby Reba was born to a momma who couldn’t keep her. Clint, Shelly and Brian brought Reba to SMR to meet Dollie.

Dollie had a full milk supply, but it isn’t easy to get a mother cow to accept a baby that isn’t hers.

Miss Sierra Mustang skinned one of the premature twins, and we tied it’s hide onto Reba so that Dollie would recognize the smell and accept her more quickly. ,

It worked ♥️

Dollie adopted little Reba and is caring for her just as she would her own ♥️ Protecting her, licking her, and most importantly feeding her. Watching that bond form has been incredibly special!

We feel so blessed that Reba came into our lives and that something so tragic could turn into such a beautiful new beginning ♥️🐮
