Does this stunning red shouldered hawk (we've named her Rita) look fat and happy? That's because she discovered the all-you-can-eat buffet of baby chicks. Mama started with 11 in the garden, and getting down to just 3, has moved them into your security of the coop and covered run. But Rita was still hoping for brunch today. I actually had to shoo her away. I can't blame a girl for wanting a fresh breakfast! And she's so pretty!

Happy piggies are settling in. Week 1 is focused on us sitting quietly and building trust. Charlie is now brave enough to quickly sn**ch treats from our hands; Wilbur is a little more hesitant. I just love them so much!!

This garden is such a blessing! Canning and freezing has begun. After trying to grow peas unsuccessfully the last two years, I finally succeeded. Granted, it's only one small serving, but I'll chalk it up as a success. 🤣🤣 The pole beans are blanched and frozen. Relish canned. Even tried some zucchini fritters.

The garden is getting full! Tons of spinach, lettuce, peppers, summer squash and zucchini ready to eat. Coming soon: cucumbers, beans, peas, tomatoes, beets, carrots, and watermelon.

One of these things is not like the other. Sweet Felicia made her appearance. She's so super chill. Let me collect the eggs around her. An hour later, she's still napping in the nesting box. We've got a good arrangement: mice removal in exchange for a few eggs.

Our garden is gorgeous!! We're already getting amazing salads with our lettuce and spinach. Last night, we had bacon- wrapped jalapeños. Still to come: tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash, cukes, beans, peas, beets, carrots, and water melon.
