Please allow me to introduce to you “the Monster.” This guy has been with us on our Sussex County Christmas tree farm for nearly 20 years. He is a very handsome 14’ tall, Colorado Blue Spruce. Gave him a quick hair cut today but still trying to get to the very top. Kind of out of reach. Please keep in mind, he’s one of a kind here. Actually a record breaker! But we do have lots and lots of Firs and other types of Spruces (not many Colorados these days) across our farm in the 9-10’ range. That’s our news of the day. Now I need to get to all those Christmas tree haircuts!

Just finished shearing our smallest tree field. It’s near the pond. What do you think? A bit of a challenge getting to the tops of the ten footers. There was even one TWELVE footer! That’s likely the tallest on the farm. WOW! Now….on to the BIG fields.

Our motto has always been “NJ’s friendliest Christmas tree farm.” Apparently the “deer” community heard that. Sometimes it seems like we have more deer 🦌 than Christmas trees 🌲. (but that’s ok. We made a deal with them years ago. They agree to not eat our Christmas trees and we promise not to eat venison.)

We get a lot of calls from folks who have had a hard time finding taller trees locally. We’d like to let you know ahead of time that we will start our Christmas season with lots of trees in the 9’-10’ range. Mostly firs and spruce and a few pines. They go fast, so best to come early. We open right after Thanksgiving. If you desire a large tree, please plan on bringing EXTRA HELP! These trees are not only tall, they are quite heavy. We have limited help and get busy. It’s a VERY good idea to bring a PICKUP TRUCK. So much easier to load your large tree. Our baling machines are not capable of wrapping large heavy trees.

Just a quick message to our friends in Sussex County. It’s rare when you find a company that really is first rate and cares about what it is they do. So we wanted to mention this here: We fired Optimum last week. Hired a local company called “Planet Networks” instead for our Internet and will now stream cable. Will end up a bit less than half of what we were paying for horrible service from Optimum. We experienced a couple of minor glitches the last few days. Planet sent out two very good technicians this morning and they made some changes. Everything is now working better than ever. Planet is based right here in Newton. When you call there, you speak to a person. And that person is actually there….not in some other state or in some far off country! So very glad that Sussex County now has an internet company that actually cares about their customers. Kind of amazing, huh?

Just 20 years ago, the “Dairy State” of Wisconsin had 15,000 dairy farms. Today? Less than 5,000. We’re not just losing farms in NJ. It’s happening at an alarming rate across America. Truly sad.

This morning on our Wantage Christmas tree farm: These kids just won’t give up. I actually found that they hooked themselves up to Santa’s sleigh. I stopped them in time. Said, “hey kids, you’re way too young to fly. Leave it to the adults!”

This is the first field of trees you will see when coming up our 1/4 mile driveway to our farm. Three more fields behind this one and a smaller one off to the right and behind our pond. Still lots and lots of work to go before we open for cut-your-own Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving.
