I bring seasonal, colorful eggs to area farmers markets year round, as well as baked goods made with local, organic flour.

What an UNUSUAL gosling to hatch out from this clutch overnight! 🤣 If I can catch him, I might need to isolate him and raise him myself, or find someone else who can; not sure the geese will teach him to forage properly. Still, chicken incubation is about 22 days, and goose is closer to 30, so maybe goslings aren’t far behind?

It begins! The goslings are starting hatch, and it’s always bittersweet to welcome them and then send them off. Looking for homes for our last on-farm generation. Unsexed goslings are $35 each, and I can’t recommend geese enough for most any homestead. They were an unexpected delight and it’s tough imagining our life without them. Hardy, thrifty, and long-lived characters that will grow on you. ❤️🪿🐣🐣🐣

Dug up three big ‘ol comfrey plants I planted in the rooster run this time last year. Just stuck some very small root fragments in the rocky, compacted soil here and despite that—and occasional hammering from the boys—they’ve grown nicely. Moving them to the small home orchard I’m re-establishing in town as I move off this land.

Just wanted to share something beautiful. One of my all-time favorite breeds, the Dutch Brabanter. Beautiful. Pheasant-like body. Docile, but independent. Thrifty eaters and good foragers. Fertile. Wonderful producers of white eggs that are rounder than most. I got all mine from in Cameron, TX and if they still offer them I really encourage you to stock up!
