I love this event at the NC Cooperative Extension - Buncombe County 🌿 I just pressed three Goldenrod species I’m hoping to ID before it’s time to plant the seeds.

My mom and I had a great day vending at Sassyfest, (the Sassafras Moon Herbal Festival) by HERBalachia 🌖🌿 🎶 I always enjoy this event in the sweet little town of Erwin, TN. Thank goodness we had a nice little breeze, great music (including a kid playing the guitar (Black Sabbath!) like a boss ☠️) and thanks to my mom I was able to attend one of their many free herbal classes. I’ve been going to this festival for years and always learn a lot! Thanks so much HERBalachia! 💛🌿 and to everyone who came out to show us vendors some love!!

Kiln unload selfie! It sounds so corny and cliché but for me, one of the best things that has come from ceramics is all of the wonderful people I’ve gotten to know. Jenn and Rose, two ceramics badasses I’ve met over the years right here in the Swannanoa valley, joined me for this firing, and it was a joy. 💛

It was such a great firing!

I’m sanding and packing up pots for the Sassafras Moon Herbal Festival (HERBalachia🌙) happening this Saturday in Erwin, TN, which is about 45 minutes from Asheville. They’ve got an amazing lineup of classes, all free to the public, no registration required. It’s one of my favorite events of the year, and is well worth the beautiful drive. I’m going to attend the Appalachian Herbal Salts class Red Moon Herbs’ Jeannie Dunn is giving 🌿🧂

I made a big run of mugs for this firing, all pressed with Goldenrod and Asters 💛 This time of the year is my favorite for making pressings!! ✨ I’ll have many other pots fresh from the kiln as well as a nice selection of native perennials and herbs, and my Gardener’s Salve made from plants grown here on the farm. 🌿

Maybe I’ll see you there! ☺️

Looking forward to HERBalachia’s Sassy Fest this weekend! 🌿

I spent the last couple of days loading the kiln, one of my favorite parts of the process. ✨

It’s kind of like playing a long, slow, fun but high stakes game of 3D Tetris. Or maybe 4D.. because you’re thinking about the flames moving through the kiln and how they’ll flow, so every piece must be thoughtfully placed. I’ll finish the door tonight, sleep a good long one, and we’ll light it up tomorrow.

Lots of beautiful work in the kiln by Rose Hardesty and Jenn, and Rose’s critters! It’s so fun placing them all over the kiln. 🐌

I have lots of plant themed pottery in this load to take to Sassafras Moon Herbal Festival (HERBalachia) in Erwin, TN next weekend 🌙 🌿

I’ll be there tomorrow with pottery, plants and gardener’s salve 🪴💛🌿

We have a fantastic event happening at the Market this week!

French cooking doesn’t have to be complicated — or expensive! Join Emily from The Asheville Kitchen for a relaxed, demo-style class featuring simple, delicious recipes that are easy to recreate at home. We’ll make a summer ratatouille layered with colorful vegetables, a simple shallot vinaigrette that will quickly become your favorite salad dressing for all seasons, and for a sweet finish, we'll make Parisian crepes that are so much easier to make than they look, topped with local fruit and fresh whipped cream.

Come watch, learn, and get inspired while enjoying your Saturday morning at the Market!

Saturday, August 29
11am-12pm

Fresh ingredients, good food, and a little French flair — we’ll see you there!

I’ll be headed back to the Black Mountain Tailgate Market Saturday morning with Pottery, Plants and my Gardener’s Salve!

I went out to the kiln this morning to see who I abandoned there after the last firing, and as usual I found some beauties! All just needing a little work on their bottoms from wood ash drips. So I did some grinding, mugs and vases mostly ✨ I’ll have these pots with me Saturday.

A few of the perennials I’m bringing are blooming right now. I prefer planting when they aren’t flowering if possible, but it’s also nice to see them in all their glory. ‘Henry Eliers’ Rudbeckia, Great Blue Lobelia, and Sochan are pictured here. 🪴
