I recently saw a post from a photographer saying that she’s looking forward to seeing all of the angry clients of photographers who used AI images to advertise their Christmas sessions. While I am not looking forward to people being disappointed, I can definitely see it happening, as many people still cannot tell the difference between AI and a real photo.
That’s why here at Sharp Farm, we will never use AI to advertise our settings, for our ads, or for anything. We also ask that you don’t run our promotional photos through AI to “enhance” them.
Catie Eovaldi Photography once told me something wonderful. I was mentioning how I needed to fix something visually, and she said “I love it—it adds to the country charm. And that really stuck in my head.
When Andrea Martin Photography was here, she reinforced this thought. I went to pull a w**d out of the zinnia garden, and she said, “no, leave it, it looks more natural that way.” (My featured Iphone photo from her workshop)
The simple charm of rustic settings that aren’t exactly perfect (something AI can never re-create) is why people come here. Of course I put all the love and care into all of our settings, but they aren’t meant to be unrealistically perfect— that’s what gives them character—they are REAL! That is why we choose vintage items, that may be weathered or have patina, for nearly all of our decor.
**Though I will say, please feel free to edit out our signs or something that is not supposed to be in the background (vehicles, golf cart…) we try very hard to make sure nothing distracting is in the background of settings, but we do live here, on this working cattle farm. 😅
Lately, I have seen a lot of posts from people saying they will no longer support businesses using AI, and I’ve also seen some big businesses promise to stop using AI due to customer disapproval. A lot of people are confused saying “well you’re using your phone, you’re using AI”… but they don’t understand that “generative AI” is a whole other ballgame. Generative AI is used to create images or videos. It uses a lot more energy and water than just searching for the answer to a question. The data centers they are currently building are for generative AI, and possibly other nefarious purposes, but I digress.
I’m not trying to start a debate about AI, but I believe that it will soon be detrimental to life as we know it. It’s already replacing the need for certain jobs. I hope that you will do some research, if you haven’t already, and understand why we feel this way, and why we want to stay as far away from it as possible ♥️
