Westwind Farm

Westwind Farm Contact information, map and directions, contact form, opening hours, services, ratings, photos, videos and announcements from Westwind Farm, Farm, 11487 Reid Road, Swartz Creek, MI.

Westwind Farm is a 120 acre educational and working farm, offering real food for real people, including our freshly milled flour, vegetables in season, eggs, bread and baked goods, as well as classes and events in Simple Living. In addition to our classes and events, Westwind Farm is a working farm, raising specialty crops such as our Westwind Woolies slippers and our wonderful Boldog Paprika Pepp

ers, for which we have a fresh crop this season. For those of you who knew us from the old Mill in Argentine, Westwind Milling, we have taken many of the products and events we used to do at there, and brought them home to the Farm, which gives us much more diversity in product, more possibilities in educational events, and of course, our Community Supported Agriculture program, feeding 30 families in our 4th year, far more than we ever could have done at the old Mill.

THE HOLIDAYS AT WESTWIND FARM - PIE TASTING, TURKEYS AND TEA!!

Saturday, November 22, from 2-4 pm PIE TASTING DAY!! Come to taste many favorite homemade pies and vote for the best one in each category - either a fruit pie, a cream pie, or a savory pie. Take as many recipes home as you like to try in your own kitchen for your holiday gathering, or just to expand your pie repertoire!! If you bring a pie, you get in for FREE. You'll just need to let me know which pie you are bringing and send me the recipe by November 16, so I can copy it for everyone. Tasters only are $10 ea, kids under 12 are $5, for all the pie tastings you like. Prizes for top 3 in each category - yummy!!

Tuesday, November 25 AMISH TURKEY DELIVERY DAY For the last 8 or 9 years, Lee and I drive up north to Morley Michigan on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to pick up cleanly raised, very fresh Amish turkeys from the same Amish family - Joe and Naomi Miller. Their turkeys (and chickens too) are raised without synthetic hormones or anti biotics. They live outdoors eating bugs, greens and scratch feed that the Millers raise on their farm in the same way, no synthetic fertilizers, insecticides, etc. The birds are killed and processed that morning, we pick them up in the afternoon, and bring them to the Farm ready for you to pick up usually around 6 pm. All these birds are pre-order, with a $100 deposit required to be received before we go to get them. Price is $5.50/lb. The deposit pays for the vast majority of it. We always encourage people to cook up giblets for their (or neighbors) dogs or cats, freeze extras and make bone broth from the carcass. It can help you stay healthy for the winter months this way. This year, with our herbs having done very well, we are giving each person an herb bouquet of sage, savory, and thyme for the stuffing or just plain turkey seasoning.
The picture is of the Miller's turkeys' home from early September when we were at their place to pick up chickens.

Sunday, December 7, 2-4 pm 9TH ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TEA The Teas are my favorite events. We make the Tea Room upstairs festive, and all of our savory and sweet offerings are homemade, mostly from our farm ingredients and what is not is certified organic. This year, more traditional offerings such as real Gingerbread, Spiced Plum Cake, our Lemon Curd with Shortbread cookies will be at the buffet table. I'm hoping to do some items with monkfruit, for those to whom sugar is an enemy. We also have NEW herbal teas from our Herb House - Peppermint & Chamomile or Chamomile Lavender, along with the certified organic, fair trade Asian teas we usually serve. Door prizes, too! Bring a friend, family members, etc., for a relaxing afternoon where you can really ENJOY the holiday spirit! $30 each

Don't hesitate to call/text or reply to this email if you have any questions or need additional information on any of these events. We hope to see lots of you during the holiday season!

Fresh Chicken Available in late August!
Westwind Farm is once again collaborating with Joe and Naomi Miller, our Amish friends near Big Rapids, to bring you their humanely raised chicken. For those of you not familiar with us, we purchase pre-ordered chickens from the Millers, bring them back to our farm for pick up on the same day they were salughtered and processed. The Millers raise their chickens on grass, bugs, and supplemental non-gmo scratch feed from their own fields, no chemicals are used in their upbringing, and their chickens are outside daily. They are truly free range and truly hormone and antibiotic free (NOT the warehouse raised chickens with a tiny door at the end of the building opening to a tiny yard, but don't get me started...) This quality of life is reflected in the taste of these very healthy birds.

If you'd like to try one bird or have tasted them before and would like several for your freezer, they are $5.25/lb with a deposit of $26.25 per bird ordered required in advance. If you'd like to get them cut up, there is a .75 per bird charge to do so. Delivery day will be decided when I hear from Joe, mid-August, likely for the last week of August. If you order and cannot make it on that day, we can hold it in the in the fridge for a day or two for you. Call Linda at 810 701-8151 to place an order or for more information.

Join us for A Summer Tea at the Great Oak!
On Saturday, August 23, from 2-4 pm, Westwind Farm will host a beautiful end of summer Tea at our old oak tree! The tree is in the middle of our farm, away from road noise and close to wildlife, breezes, and sunshine. We have indoor teas twice or sometimes 3 times per year, and they are very nice, but any event by the old Oak is extra special! Enjoy a wagon ride from the Farmhouse out to the Tree where we will enjoy seasonal treats, sweet and savory, along with, of course, a mix of hot and cold teas, herbal and Asian.
Come with a friend or with yourself. Cost is $30 each. Pre-paid reservations required, max 25 people. We're located at 11487 Reid Rd. Swartz Creek, MI 48473. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Purdy at (810) 701-8151.
