As we step into June, there is so much happening here on the farm and in the gardens. 🌸

Everywhere we look there are signs of the harvest to come.

The early berries are already starting to form…

The raspberry canes are HUGE this year — many well over 6 feet tall already!

Every time I step out the front door, I can smell blossoms everywhere. There is truly no time of year when the farm smells sweeter. šŸ¤

I often find myself thinking about just how loving and thoughtful our God is. He could have created an apple tree that simply produced an apple — no waiting, no blossoms, no season of anticipation.

But instead, He begins with something beautiful.

A delicate blossom.
A sweet fragrance carried on the breeze.
A reminder to slow down and notice the gifts all around us.

And then, after all that beauty, comes the fruit.

I am so grateful that my Creator God took the time to give us not only what we need, but so many little things to enjoy along the way. 🌸

These lilac bushes have a very special meaning to me.

Over 30 years ago, Michael and I went ā€œup the mountainā€ with my grandparents to the old homestead where my grandmother grew up.

At that time my grandmother was beginning to show signs of early dementia — a heartbreaking journey that was slowly taking its toll on my grandfather and our entire family.

But on that mountain that day, my grandfather shared stories. He told us about their courting days — how he would travel 25 miles one way by horse on Sundays just to spend a couple of hours with my grandmother before making the long trip back home again.

He told us about their wedding day on that same mountain, standing beside the massive lilac bushes that were blooming there.

ā€œShe won’t be remembering much of that day on the mountain,ā€ he quietly told me.

That afternoon, I dug lilac shoots with my grandpa. I told him that I would remember for her.

I brought those lilacs home and planted them beneath our bedroom window.

And every spring when they bloom, I remember.

I remember the mountain.
I remember their love story.
I remember my grandmother.
And I remember the promise I made to my grandpa all those years ago.

Sometimes flowers are so much more than flowers.

As May comes to an end here on the farm, I find myself looking at a to-do list that somehow seems to keep getting longer instead of shorter.

And if I’m not careful, I can get so focused on everything that still needs to be done that I forget to look around and appreciate everything we’ve already accomplished.

This month has been full.

~ All of the fruit trees and berry bushes have been pruned and are ready for a new growing season.

~ After tearing down our very old (and very tired!) deck last fall, we finally finished the landscaping around the house — and what a difference it makes.

~ We have been slowly tackling a very old garage, sorting through years of memories and ā€œtreasures.ā€ It’s almost emptied out now and will be coming down this fall.

~ And best of all… the gardens are planted! Now comes the fun part — watching everything grow and looking forward to all the wonderful things that will come from this year’s harvest.

Farm life always has another project waiting, another w**d to pull, another thing that needs fixing. But today I’m choosing to celebrate progress instead of focusing on the unfinished list.

One season at a time. One project at a time. And always grateful for this little piece of land we get to call home.

The wild strawberries are absolutely covered in blossoms this time of year, and once those tiny berries begin to ripen there’s nothing sweeter.

But these photos of strawberries from last summer are also a good reminder of why I’ve never attempted to make wild strawberry jam. Can you imagine how many of these little berries I would have to pick just to make ONE batch? šŸ˜…

There’s just something special about fishing in the middle of the week.
No crowds. No noise. Just the peaceful sound of the water, the gentle breeze, and the beauty of northern Minnesota all around us. Most days it feels like we have the whole lake to ourselves… until a huge flock of geese suddenly flies overhead, reminding us we’re never really alone out here.
These quiet moments in the middle of the week are good for the soul.

A few weeks ago I was gathering bright yellow dandelions — the very first flowers to bloom here in northern Minnesota — and now we’ve moved on to one I've never tried before (but I have done a lot of research šŸ‘Œ) - Wild Violet Jelly.

And the color? Absolutely amazing. These delicate violet blossoms transform into the prettiest soft sky blue jelly. Nature never stops surprising me. But, oh my goodness, it did take some time collecting enough blooms for a batch of jelly.

Now I’m standing in the yard eyeing all the blossoms and wondering what might come next. Wild plum blossom jelly? Apple blossom jelly? Tempting… but I think I better save those blossoms for the fruit they’ll produce later this season.

So far I’ve come up with 6… actually make that 7… floral jellies for my new Blossom & Bloom Jelly Sampler collection.

Now the big question is…
✨ Which jelly should come next? ✨

After almost 5 years, the Boondock family has a new four-legged member. ā¤ļø

When we lost our sweet Belle to cancer, our hearts just weren’t ready to open that chapter again for a very long time. Anyone who has loved a good dog understands how hard that loss can be. For years, we couldn’t even imagine bringing another pup into the mix.

But over time, I found myself missing that daily companionship — the happy greetings, the shadow following me around the farm, the quiet comfort that only a dog can bring. So I started praying for the right personality, the right fit for our little farm family.

And then came Archer.

At first glance, he looks a lot like Belle, but that’s where the comparisons stop. Archer is young, curious, energetic, and into absolutely everything. šŸ˜‚ He has already done a thorough inspection of his new territory and has managed to make friends with a few of the other critters around the farm.

I think he’s going to fit in just fine here at Boondock Enterprises.

Welcome home, Archer.
