The Highly contagious H5N1 Avian Influenza has been found in South Carolina. If you do not practice biosecurity, now is the time to start.
Be wary of the following symptoms and if you have any concerns, please contact your state vet.
-Sudden death
-lethargy
-loss of appetite
-diarrhea
-nasal/ ocular discharge
-drop in egg production, loss of shell, or misshapen eggs.
-swelling or purple discoloration
-loss of coordination
-gasping.
We know these are very broad symptoms that can mimic other issues. Know your flock and when something isn't normal. Practice biosecurity. Some tips to help
-Have Coop only shoes.
-Make sure that wild birds cannot access your coop or runs nor can they p**p into where your poultry is kept.
-make sure to quarentine any sick birds
-clean feeders and waterers regularly.
