Mid term elections. You might think you have nothing at stake or that these elections do not matter. Nothing could be further from the truth. However, if you still think voting does not apply to you, please, PLEASE do it for your neighbors, for the most vulnerable amongst us, for those who have no voice, and because you can. Not everyone enjoys that privilege.

What to do with last year’s extra pumpkin cups? How about have your local wax dealer lend a hand? Vuur Lont Candle Co. Candles & Fragrance Products filled up some pumpkin cups for me and I will have them at the market this weekend! When the candle is burned down to 1/4” of wax, you can empty it and use it however you like OR take it into Carrie for a refill! I do this with my summer candles every year. Keeps the container out of the landfill, you only pay for the refill, and you get to keep your favorite vessel in the rotation! ALSO, I just unloaded the kiln and this beauty is on its way to OpenDoor Coffee Saturday, 10-2:00. Stop by and tell me about everything.

On this busy Tuesday in the middle of an incredibly busy few months, a random assortment of things that have delighted me. Paw Paws for breakfast, twinkle lights in a market tent, risky glazing that turned out okay, bowls big and small, W***y St Madison, my window sill gallery, Salted Nut Rolls for friends and safety, more Paw Paw delight, and works in progress. The world lately is delight and devastation in equal measure. The joy found in art and the people who seek it out are keeping me afloat. I hope you find your joy and cling tightly to it. The kiln has been firing none stop this week. Last ever Alley Art Festival is Saturday, 8/29. Earth Made Market is Saturday, 9/12. I will be there for both!! Bringing some old favorites and some ideas that finally rattled around in my head so much they made their way out into the clay. Quite literally in the case of the seed pod rattles. I will have itty bitty pots bundled as surprise boxes, chip and dip bowls, and these three bowl pieces that are one of my favorite ways to serve little snacks. Both of these markets are pure joy. Amazing humans with so much art and creativity on display. Stop by, shake a rattle just because it’s fun, stock up on soap (Aurora only!), and please, say hello and tell me everything.

Working in my own little studio in an old horse barn has some advantages. I have 24/7 access, I pick the soundtrack and I can sing and dance and swear in equal measure without fear of judgment. With all that freedom comes responsibility. And possibly more swearing when I’m down on the concrete floor with my arm under a kiln reattaching the flexible duct hose for the kiln vent. Someone please tell me why the hose clamp has a slotted screw? Surely there is a valid reason? Anyway, do you like working in solitude or prefer a shared creative space? I prefer the solitude, damn slotted screws aside.

People who paint using a palette, this is for you. What makes a good one? Fiddling around with fulfilling some special requests after I found 50lbs of white clay body that I forgot I had! I have some ideas to try out, but given that I am not a painter, thought I’d tap into the experts at hand. Help?

Trying to decide what to call what I’be been up to. Today’s Book of Alchemy chapter provided the answer. I’ve been treasure hunting. Through the horrible news cycle, the environmental and humanitarian nightmares, the existential crises, and the people I love who are in unimaginable pain, I am treasure hunting. Finding a trove of silver, gold and semi-precious stones in the garden, this glorious little three acres, the fledgling Coopers Hawks, the studio, and careful human connection.

As a person who almost never feels like I really know what I am doing, I can confirm the wisdom of this statement from Jon Kabat-Zinn. Been working really hard, playing really hard and remaining open to help and delight from unexpected places. Here are the receipts Soil compaction in action. Look at that goose path. Who would have thought those flappy feet could do this. Garden helper ready to eat the pulled weeds. Garden friend. Stocking up. Painted over a horrible color and feel much better now. Cat rescue. Preparing for winter tea times. Housesitting bonus sunset. How about you? Finding delight and help in unexpected places?
