A big big thank you to all who participated, shared music, and generously donated at our 4th Annual 24 Hour Rock-a-Thon! So far we have raised $1,881! It was a great time with some really wonderful music as well as jolly comradery with new friends and old, a delicious and varied potluck spread, and absolutely gorgeous weather! If you missed it, or just want to re-live the fun, you can watch the recording on this page. If you are active online, please consider posting a little testimony to what this space means to you, and share the livestream and the GoFundMe link! Thanks again! https://gofund.me/3dd85b633

It's time for our annual Rock-a-Thon Fundraiser for community activities at Flotsam Farm We so appreciate all who participate, and all who are able to contribute financially! Teamwork makes the dream work as they say, and we NEED a dream that includes community, creativity, health, nature, learning and fun!
Flotsam events are offered for free or by donation, with upkeep, repairs, planning, setup/cleanup etc. completed by volunteers. This FUNdraiser enables us to keep it all going! Our annual goal is $5,000, which will go toward utilities, repairs and improvements, and other event-related expenses.

The 24-hour Rockathon starts at 10am Saturday! This event is our way of showcasing our community's creativity and commitment by playing live music for 24 hours straight. Check out the event page for the schedule and more info!
If you can't attend in person, the event will be livestreamed here: https://www.facebook.com/FlotsamFarm
Flotsam Farm is a community hub in the rural Ozarks. We cultivate connection through weekly and seasonal events where we share good food, dance and play music together, make art, organize around issues important to our bioregion, and learn and grow together! The Flotsam Farm Community Building AKA The YeeHaw is a safe and inclusive space that houses The Sycamore Salon, a weekly Thursday evening potluck and gathering time featuring guest speakers, hands-on projects, and discussions.
Flotsam Farm also hosts the annual Slacker Solstice Party, a multi-day music festival featuring around 30 local and regional musical acts, and a float trip down our beloved Bryant Creek. Garloween is our annual costume and music party featuring garlic planting and kickball. Folks can also get involved in our cooperative sorghum project, where we collectively plant, tend, harvest, press and cook this amazing plant into delicious, nutritious syrup!
Aside from events, we work every day on networking, growing food, making art and music, and caring for each other.

Tonight at the Sycamore Salon Marisa Frazier of the Missouri Sierra Club will present Our Common Ground: Conserving Missouri’s Land, Air, Water & Wildlife Public lands and natural resources belong to all of us—and so does the responsibility to protect them. Together, we’ll explore the challenges facing Missouri’s landscapes and ecosystems, the power of advocacy, and the role each of us can play in ensuring clean air, safe water, and thriving wildlife for generations to come.

Cooperative farming project at 4pm, potluck at 5:30, presentation to follow.

Reminder that if you don’t want to miss Flotsam Farm updates please give me your email address so I can add you to my weekly list!

Come on over today (Thursday) at 2 for cooperative food project work, followed by the Sycamore Salon.

Chris Incorvia will be our presenter tonight, Thursday 4/10. Join us for an exciting, hands-on workshop where we'll explore the world of "metastatic" technology and learn how to build a solar-powered metastatic node using an ESP32 board! This talk is perfect for all ages and skill levels, whether you're a tech enthusiast or just curious about how technology works. We'll guide you through the process of building and programming a node, and you'll leave with a better understanding of how these systems can connect communities. Additionally, we’ll discuss the opportunity to study together for the ham radio licensing test, a great way to expand your communication skills and connect with others.

4/17 Soapmaking with Dan Israel
We will be doing a class on soap making using the cold batch process. You will see the entire process from start to finish. After the soap cures for a few weeks, you will even get to take some home to try it out. It’s great for washing your hands and using it in the shower.
This will be a hands on class where you can help with weighing the ingredients, melting the fats, mixing the oils, preparing the lye/water mixture, blending the soap, adding color and fragrance (if desired) and pouring the finished soap into the molds.

Our tentative date for a Sweat Lodge is Saturday, April 19 at 1 pm. Please contact Linda or I to RSVP.

Save the date for a musical Mother’s Day Celebration Sunday, May 11 with John Depew Trio and Creek Stink!

I'm so honored to be featured in this Smithsonian Folklife article by McConnell!

Deep in the rolling country hills of Ozark County, Missouri, Amelia LaMair works to grow crops and community. Her efforts are found through goats and a farm-sized garden, and a sense of community that—like the vegetables she raises—is intentional.

Her home, Flotsam Farm, is in a rugged, isolated part of the region, but it’s a destination for folks to gather: for ongoing, organized events, education, music performances, and other life-enriching moments that may not make a profit in dollars but do in quality of life.

“I feel confident that we’re doing something good in the world, and it’s a way of rebalancing things and redistributing wealth,” she says.

Read more about LaMair’s community work in a new Folklife Magazine feature by Kaitlyn McConnell, founder of Ozarks Alive and curatorial team member of the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival program on the Ozarks: https://s.si.edu/3DoIwKo

Community is so important to our collective thriving as humans. Here at Flotsam Farm, we host weekly and seasonal events that provide a safe, welcoming space for people to gather and connect. We, Eric Bogwalker and Amelia LaMair, organize and host these events because we see their immense value, and offer them for free or by donation because we want everyone to be included. If you believe in this important work, and have cash to spare, please consider donating to sustain and improve this community service!
Starting at noon on Saturday 3/22 we'll put the "fun" in fundraiser by hosting 24 hours of live music in the Flotsam Farm Community Building! All are welcome to attend, and we will also be livestreaming the event from this FB page.
Follow the link below to donate online, or cash or check are great too!
