During our last construction , I asked the builder to be sure to account for this piece and he did not. As much as I loved that house, I didn’t love the kitchen and how the butcher block seemed to be an afterthought, shoved into a corner, nonfunctional and mostly unseen.

When I designed this kitchen, I knew I wanted this old butcher block to have a place of honor. It has been in my family for almost 100 years—passed down through generations, standing first in my grandparents’ home, then my mom’s, and now mine.

So instead of simply finding a place for it, we built our kitchen island around it.

I love knowing that something my grandparents once stood beside and my mom used in her own home is now right in the heart of mine. It’s worn, imperfect, and marked by nearly a century of life—and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.

Trends come and go, but pieces that hold your family’s story never go out of style. And someday, I hope this old butcher block finds its way into one of my boys’ homes, carrying a little piece of all of us with it.

Mine is a sentimental heart.

I love this reminder.

It’s so easy to extend grace to people when they’re easy to love—when they agree with us, treat us well, and meet our expectations. The real work comes when they don’t.

But the truth is, we’ve all been the difficult person in someone else’s story. We’ve had bad days. We’ve said the wrong thing. We’ve needed patience, forgiveness, and grace we probably didn’t deserve.

So today, choose kindness. Give people a little more room to be human. Forgive a little quicker. Assume the best when you can. And remember that loving someone doesn’t mean approving of everything they do—it simply means refusing to let bitterness take up residence in your heart.

Love people. Even the difficult ones.

Especially because sometimes… the difficult one is us.

When I have a grazing table of this magnitude on a Saturday morning, I spend the entire week prior preparing.

A typical day looks like… 😃

Get up at 5 am; shower, eat a bagel with cream cheese and Diet Coke, straighten house.
Arrive to full-time job at 7 am.
Work all day, leave around 4 pm, sometimes later.

Go to grocery store/pick up florals.
Drive home, usually on phone with full-time job.

Home, fix dinner, clean up house, fix lunches for tomorrow and water all flowers.

Start washing fruit, cutting cheese and making dips. Prepare and wrap as many platters/boards for sitting on table as possible (this helps save so much time day of event!)

Refrigerate everything!

Repeat every day.

I have poured so much love into this little business for almost five years; it’s a lot of work but, it’s mine.

Today was good for the soul. I hosted some of my favorite girls for a little pool day, and we laughed until our tummies hurt, ate way too much cowboy caviar, soaked up the sunshine, and talked about everything and absolutely nothing.

There’s just something about girlfriends—the kind you can be completely yourself with, laugh way too loud with, and lose track of time with. No fancy plans needed… just sunshine, good food, a pool, and people you love.

Days like this are the best kind. ā¤ļø

Almost two years ago, I started a book club.

I’ve always loved to read, and as my boys started becoming more independent, heading off to college and building lives of their own, I suddenly found myself with something I hadn’t had much of in years… a little more time for me.

And one thing I’ve learned in this season of life is that women need women!

I don’t care what anyone says—a woman needs a strong circle of girlfriends. Women she can laugh until she cries with, cry until she laughs with, talk about life with, read a good book with, eat good food with, and simply do life alongside.

What started as a book club has become so much more than books. These women have become some of my very favorite people, and book club has become one of my favorite nights of every month. In almost two years, I’ve only missed THREE—and if you know how busy life can get, that probably tells you just how much I love this group!

There’s something really special about finding friendship in a new season of life. Our children grow up. Our schedules change. Life keeps moving. But there is still so much laughter, friendship, connection and fun waiting for us.

So thankful I decided to start this little club …and even more thankful for the women who showed up!

(Everyone’s welcome if you’re looking for new friends too).

Thank you for having me Junior League of Bham-

There’s something I love about seeing a table come together and knowing it gets to be a small part of people gathering, connecting, and celebrating.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share what I love doing with such a wonderful group.

Thank you for letting Wood + Rosemary have a seat at your table!

If you ever wonder whether one single, solitary person has the ability to change the world in a beautiful and positive way—the answer is yes. ā¤ļø

Be kind. Be genuine. Give people a reason to smile. Leave things a little better than you found them.

You may never know how far one kind word, one generous act, one smile, or simply making someone feel seen will travel.
