Time for a mid season recap. The most Kansas City Barbeque Society comps we have done in a year have been 7. For this year we have done 7 with 7 more scheduled. We are half way there. 7 comps for a total of 28 turn-ins.

Here is how we did for top-10s.
🐓 - 4, best was 4th
🐖 - 1, best was 5th
🐷 - 5, best was 1st
🐄 - 2, best was 4th
🏆 - 3, best was 5th with a 702.88

12 calls out of 28 is 43%. Is that good, 🤷‍♂️ , I don’t know. Just a data point for the future.

We also did a Steak Cookoff Association event where we received a 2nd in pork with a Golden Ticket 🎫. Pork has been good to me this year.

We have fine tuned our flavor profiles and our processes and are heading to Worland next weekend to start the second half and the coach has us fired up with a rousing half-time speech. Looking forward to seeing our Bbq friends again.

Time to report on our most recent adventure. We spent last weekend in Laramie WY at the ACF Smokin’ BBQ comp. We were briefed about the altitude but still let it get the best of us on our brisket. Nothing like experiencing it first hand.

On the bright side, pork continued to treat us well and we are starting to dial in ribs and received our first call for the year.

There were 32 teams and we were:
13th in 🐓
5th in 🐖 (Loot N' B***y BBQ , Heavy Smoke BBQ & Chris Webb on Prairie Fresh Pork )
6th in 🐷 (Champion Pitmaster Christie Vanover & Joshua DeWitt on Prairie Fresh Pork )
29th, yes 29th in 🐄, darn life lessons
15th overall

We had a good time hanging out with some new bbq friends. It was a pleasure to meet
Smoking & Toasting BBQ Crew and Si Quema BBQ. Thank you Brian Guerrero for the breakfast burrito!

Once again, all the Utah teams heard their names called. 👏

We just returned from the Dillon Days Blowin’ Smoke Bbq Cook-off. We don’t have any hardware pics to show but we did have front row seats for the local 4th of July parade. Enjoy!

We were able to hear our name called in chicken and pork. That makes 4 comps in a row for both so I don’t think I will be making any changes there.

The brisket was probably the best I have done. Too bad it wasn’t the Wild Child category. Thank you to for your feedback.

Ribs were better and I am knocking at the top 10 door there. gave me some tips so we will see how Laramie goes.

There were 26 teams and we were:
6th place 🐓 ( & )
12th place 🐷
10th place 🐖 ( & on )
11th place 🐄

10th place overall. Glad to still make the cutoff!

Congrats to our friend on his consecutive GC and Texas Smoke Whisperer on RGC. It was nice to cook next to you.

Congrats to my nephew on on his 1st place ribs.

Utah had 5 teams competing and each heard their name called. 4 of us were stacked one after the other in overall rankings (8-11) with 1 stand out. Congrats to on a 1st place brisket and congrats to the stand out on three calls and a 5th place overall.

We made the long trip to the Smoke-N-Wings contest in Blackfoot, ID. What an amazing experience!! We were able to cook next to big brother who was instrumental in starting me down this treacherous midlife crisis. We were able to hang out with many friends, old and new.

Steve and Stacey McClellan put on an amazing competition! Their hospitality and amazing swag are unmatched. Thank you my friend.

Congrats to for another amazing cook with the GC and congrats to for RGC. Special congrats goes out to on their 1st place brisket. It was awesome to see such an honest amount of joy after putting in the hard work.

We had a pretty good cook overall. I was hesitant to feel good about it because I knew that I had missed a step on my ribs and wrapped them too soon. I wasn’t wrong in that ribs was my lowest category. The rest were pretty good.

There were 31 teams and we were:
4th in 🐓 ( & )
18th in 🩻 (I will work on that)
6th in 🐖 ( & on )
8th in 🐄 ( & on )

5th overall with a 702.8804. I knew my cook was good but was not expecting that.

I am humbled to have performed so well in such a distinguished list of competitors.

Oh, I heard there are 27 teams competing in Dillon, MT so now that will be a qualifier. Good luck.
