Do y’all remember the Muscovy nest that was made under the rabbit cage? Well, those eggs have now hatched! 🐣

I thought it was a strange place for a duck to want to go broody, but maybe she was onto something. She was able to stay safe throughout the whole process of sitting on eggs, and she had a great hatch rate!

We’ve been seeing foxes 🦊 around the property here a lot more often lately, and in greater numbers. For any of you that have raised any type of poultry for any length of time, you know what kind of killing machines these critters can be.

Luckily, most of the birds we raise are in electric net fence. If they weren’t, there is no doubt we could’ve had many casualties by now. The only free range birds we have are the Muscovy ducks, which does worry me a bit, but according to our daily counts, we haven’t lost any as of yet as far as we can tell. The Great Pyrenees definitely help to keep the foxes at a distance from the animals too.

We’ve got a new clutch of Muscovy ducklings! 😀

These Silkie coop was opened this morning so they could freerange, and these ducklings were discovered in the Silkie coop this evening! The best we can tell, there are 17 in this clutch. The duck hatched these in an igloo dog house that is located in a goat pen! 😆

Yesterday, the wife made us some Buffalo Chicken Dip! 😋

It’s made with our homegrown chicken, buffalo sauce (you can pick how hot or mild of sauce you want to use), cream cheese, and sour cream. This stuff is a hit around here!

Our second batch of Chèvre (goat cheese) turned out even better than the first! 😆

This time, it turned out more spreadable, similar in texture to cream cheese. Also, this batch has something special mixed in, although you can’t really tell by looking at it. It has some of our homemade dandelion jelly in it! This added a slight sweetness that really makes it an extra delicious treat. It is perfect spread on bagels.

I think Chèvre is definitely gonna become a regular item we make here with our goat’s milk! 🥛

It’s been getting too hot to keep the plants in the greenhouse. They’ve been wilting pretty bad due to the heat, so it was definitely time to get them out. We’re praying for a great harvest in the future! 🙏

We found an awesome surprise while we were out taking care of some business earlier! 😁

We knew we would have some Muscovy ducklings hatching soon, but I had honestly lost track of when it should be happening. I was shocked to look over and see this momma duck parading around with her newly hatched babies! 🫢

This is the first clutch of many. We have at least 6 more ducks sitting on nests right now, and that’s if no others have made a nest in secret that we haven’t discovered yet. This looks to be a fun and productive year for the Muscovies! 🤩
