As many of you know we have we have fought for the opportunity to grow **p in Alaska for the last six years. We have petitioned our local and state governments to allow ANY Alaskan the chance to grow **p on their land, whether it be in fields, greenhouses or gardens. 2020 has been a rough year, and despite the odds we obtained a license to legally grow h**p...and even more amazing got beds built and seeds into the ground. So proud of Chris for digging deep, fighting through pain, and making it happen. This is just a tiny piece of our story, there’s so much more to come. **pinalaska **p **pcompany **ptea **p

The days are getting shorter and we can feel a chill in the breeze...but the garden keeps growing! Such a good feeling to work in the soil and soon harvest our bounty although we planted so late in the season. Hoping for a bit more sun and warmth to come in September. **ppilotprogram **pcompany **p **pcompany

Years of building our rich soil has paid off with natural abundance. Alaska’s Industrial H**p program gave Alaskans the opportunity to grow H**p as they chose. Organically grown for food and health on our small acreage, our first crop of h**p will sustain the needs of our farm and bring another depth of quality to the products we create. **p **ppilotprogram **p

Not a fan of the political season, but here we are....

Dear Labor & Commerce Committee members,
SB 27 is being held in your committee and I felt the need to message you again after listening to the testimony for SB 27 Monday.

We have been advocating for the legalization of h**p since 2015 and want the H**p industry to grow and thrive in Alaska.

As registered h**p growers we cannot support the taxing of our h**p crop and the concept of funneling our grown product through someone's private company and business proposal.

I was quite shocked this was a point of testimony by an invited individual; who neither grows or produces a h**p product.

H**p is a brand new Agricultural crop to our state, barely on its feet; and does not need to be taxed or further regulated, especially during these times of food insecurity and economic instability.

Alaska is just beginning our h**p program with a handful of registered h**p growers who are the cornerstone of an industry promoting h**p grown and processed in Alaska.

It would benefit the entire AK h**p industry to find ways to support farmers and encourage the growing of h**p on large and small acreages alike.

The future potential for an Agricultural h**p industry in our state is undeniable.

It is incredible that Alaska was able to launch a h**p program during Covid, and have various types of h**p successfully grown and harvested.

Currently h**p is a niche crop in Alaska with a small number of farmers taking the plunge to grow this new crop and a tax on the harvest would prove

detrimental. As I have testified previously, the current license and testing fees are already deterring many Alaskans capable of producing h**p on their land and additional taxes would

make it nearly impossible for small acreage h**p farming to be successful.

I am an advocate for sustainable agriculture, food security and the growing of h**p as an agricultural crop. For the last 13 years I have been legally importing h**p seed oil to use in

the natural products I create for our business.

My husband and I began our second business Denali H**p Company in 2014 as a way to educate Alaskans on the many benefits of h**p seed oil and the possibility of

products created with h**p grown in Alaska. Our balms and soaps were even passed out on the senate floor by Sen. Ellis as examples of what could be made out of Alaskan h**p.

The term "Industrial" H**p seems to bring to mind large factories and big Industry.

H**p is indeed an Agricultural crop...but that doesn't mean it HAS to be grown in huge quantities and immediately support a large-scale industry full of ready-

to-go factories and billion dollar contracts. We believe the "Industrial H**p" movement is and will be propelled by smaller Grassroots producers.

Producers and production facilities do not have to be "large" to be successful...they just need to be able to grow and harvest their h**p crops without onerous fees.

Thank you for taking the time to read my testimony. As a small producer I realize I am up against the battle of big Ag, and just ask for the fair opportunity to help create a successful h**p industry in Alaska.

H**p regulation is being discussed again by the Alaska legislature.

As always; I’m for deregulation and in support of the home grower.

I believe no regulation is needed for a plant with historic use as a food and medicine.

Alaskans deserve the freedom to grow agricultural h**p on a small scale or whatever scale fits your needs for whatever agricultural use you desire.

Things have changed a bit in the Alaska H**p program since we were involved and growers, but one things remains the same….proponents of big Ag industry are the driving force, with no consideration for the small acreage land owner.
In the past these same supporters have also proposed the taxation of Alaska h**p crops.

Here’s the current regulations below. Feel free to read past posts in this group and also the Agricultural H**p in Alaska page for a quick history of the efforts which led to the creation of what was the industrial H**p pilot program and inaugural h**p program in Alaska.
Growing h**p in Alaska is not as easy as some might imagine
