I was getting my weekly pig pen cleaning workout in while these guys just took their afternoon siesta.

Picked up the final livestock for the farm yesterday. This is our small herd of Katadin hair sheep. They seem pretty content already working on the tall grass is the pasture.

How fun are these tromboncino squash? I'm literally drowning in summer squash but I'll never stop growing these. They're dense like a patty pan squash with similar flavor. They climb and have pretty good resistance to squash borers.

I saw watermelons at the store and knew I needed to get some for the pigs. It's the little things in life.

The baby bobwhite quail are forming nicely. I checked a couple today and it looks like they are all fertilized and developing ❤️ Hoping for a good hatch from these little guys.

Hello gorgeous 😍 I didn't get the netting up quite quickly enough this year and the birds already got more than I would have liked, but they are still coming in. Is there anything better than a fresh blueberry still warm from the sun?

I have had a small flock of Bobwhite Quail in addition to my main meat coturnix quail for almost a year. Unlike the coturnix these only lay in summer when the days are long enough. Over the last week or two they've been picking up the pace and now I finally have enough to put in the incubator. I love all the little calls and other noises they make. If you're in need of hatching eggs this summer, I'll have them available.

I had to run out to the pig pen and this cutie came up to say hello despite the rain. This is Peanut and he's the greatest boar I could ask for. He's sweet with humans and loves belly rubs. He loves his ladies and treats them well. Beyond the great personality...look at the dapper little white mustache he's growing as he gets older.

We mainly use hay for bedding in pig shelters but they absolutely love to eat it too. It might sound surprising, but pigs eat hay.

We were lucky enough to have a pasture that needed mowing last year when it was dry so we made our own hay by going out and manually turning the piles for a week. It lines the quail pens and the pig beds. In winter, the barn cat made tunnels in the hay pile to sleep in because a nice warm space heater and blanket pile wasn't good enough 😄

It's not the pigs main source of food by any means but when the pig huts and hog-ma hall get filled with fresh bedding hay, it doesn't last long before they get bored and chow down. Pigs will be pigs.
