Another day, another bowl of blueberries. These bushes have been on the property for years and have always been very productive. Blueberry picking is an enjoyable chore in the evening. ❤️

Introducing the new kid on the block. Our new rooster, Henry. This young man has big shoes to fill, as our sweet Teddy was an amazing rooster. Sadly, a foot infection took him from us too soon.

So far, Henry has been a gentleman to the ladies and sweet to us. Let's hope it remains that way!

Bee update! The hive split from last month worked! The hive is small, but growing each day as the new queen lays eggs.

The first hive has been working like crazy. The super (top box) was completely full of capped honey! I took advantage of the good weather today to pull the honey.

New to the farm is an actual honey spinner. The diy spinner worked over the last few years, but as the number of hives increases, it was time for an upgrade.

Today, we collected just over 25 lbs of honey and last month, we collected 14 lbs!

And the silver lining? Only one bee sting today. 😊

First successful year growing onions! Started from seeds, which I believe is key. Planted the seeds last December and honestly, forgot about them. 😆

As they popped up, they were thinned to make room for the bulb.

Once they fall over at the neck, they are ready to be pulled and hung to dry for 2 - 3 weeks. This will help with storage.

So many tomato plants! This year. We are using bamboo to create a trellis system which is working very well so far! Also using thin velcro (made specifically for plants) to secure the main stems to the posts. What's great about this option is that the velcro can easily be moved around as needed .

A little honey harvest on this beautiful weekend. It will hang for the remainder of the day to be bottled up later.

A new bee hive for the farm. This one is made of cedar, coated with wax, and had to be built. Glue and a nail for each side of the frames. Mike offered a nail gun, but hammering each nail was slightly therapeutic. 😊

The current hive will be split using the walk away method, and only the bottom box will be used until the hive can grow.

In the grand scheme of farm projects, splitting the pasture in half was a quick one. Until we get more rain and the grass really starts growing, the cows will have full access to both sides. A water trough will be added to the left side and soon, we will start rotational grazing.
