Going back to the mountains where we came from, had a lot of memories. One of the memories was my son.
Living in a small town with a child that struggled with BIG feelings was extremely difficult.
Let’s face it, people can be judgmental. Reflection as I remember the conversations “special ed teachers”during an IEP meeting (our first of many).
Their perception, my son could control himself. This was the beginning of our journey within the school system. 🧐
An entire room of staff, 6 to be precise. Telling me, the mother of this child, “how and what his needs were.”
The Educational psychologist at one point, admitted he’d never seen a situation like my son’s sensory needs, at that time.
Just because children “look a certain way, doesn’t mean they they aren’t struggling below the surface “
Let’s change this story!
This is when, I knew I had to take measures into my own hands .
Florida was going to be our best choice to move, in order to give my boy a chance.
I didn’t know at that time, it would be a life long battle of advocacy for him.
One, I will never regret!!🫶
Who knew, that I would advocate for children and their parents in helping others understand their children.
The work I do, IS my calling.
Emotionally regulated children, become emotionally regulated adults .
