Big Announcement! 🍃🍂 The winds of change have arrived at the farm. We are pleased to announce Shawn has accepted a wonderful new job opportunity. It does mean we’ll be moving the family closer to the kid’s schools in Sylvania, OH. We want to formally announce the farm is now on the market. As we look back, all of the triumphs and challenges here taught us so much and have blessed our lives beyond measure. After a lot of hard work, investments, and helping hands, the needed repairs and improvements since we took ownership brought us closer to making the dreams we had a reality. Now, it is our sincere hope this wonderful home and property will be the perfect sanctuary to make another family’s dreams come true. We want to emphasize that it has been an honor to serve so many wonderful people at the farm and want to thank all those who have supported us over the last couple years. Many of you may not know this, but even greater than this magical place we live in are the neighbors and friends we have here. The BBQ’s, campfires, and general sense of good community have been a boon to our family.
Please check out and share our property’s listing nationwide on FB to help us get the word out. You can learn all about the work we’ve done (and are still doing) to improve things here by reaching out to our friendly, talented equestrian real estate agent, Nichole McCaig with Visible Homes - Equestrian.

This year Shawn experimented with planting in some wasted hay bales we had left over from last year and what a success! We’re having fun planning what is going to become of the spoils and the possibilities for our future gardening. đŸ…đŸ„”đŸŒż Shawn L. Mitchell Alicia Mitchell

We went from turkeys doing zoomies on the front porch yesterday to the suspected Tom in our flock displaying his beautiful feathers for the first time. Annelise picked out these birds hoping to have 3 hens and one Tom. Spot on, girly.

Mother’s Day is a celebration of something far greater than we often imagine. Motherhood isn’t just the spark of life itself, like we sometimes think it is. Motherhood is an external force of nature. At its strongest manifestation it intricately nurtures, teaches, surrounds with love, and influences positive development. Without it, life does not progress well or at worst, it doesn’t progress at all. It can’t be synthesized or faked well at all. It’s absolutely stunning in its truest, natural form.

Answering the call to bear a child, to support someone else’s child, to care for our elders, to care for our neighbors, to care for *any and all* creations on this Earth is a gift of unparalleled value! It is no small endeavor, and comes at the risk of sacrifice and pain. Celebrations like today can feel complex, and for some, painful, too. You might not think about or notice that some Mothers are hurting a little more today than other days. It could be the loss of a child, a mother, or the opportunity to duplicate the essence of divine motherhood themselves. This is all the more reason to extend our gratitude and love to those that answer this call in the best way they can, even in invisible or not so obvious ways.

đŸ’đŸŒ· To all Mothers everywhere, we see you and thank you!

Our in house chicken whisperer, Annelise, juiced some oranges tonight and brought the pulp out for the chickens to enjoy. Oranges are good for chickens and their eggs
if they’ll eat them. They all sampled them, but only a few kept coming back for more. The turkeys look bigger every day.

Aiden successfully held down the family fort for us while we spent some much needed time with family in the gorgeous Pacific Northwest this last week. It’s cold, gray, and overcast at the farm, but the spring flowers don’t mind and Scout is very glad to have Shawn home to play with again. The turkeys are getting big! We did a few chores and now it’s time to unwind.

A Recent Review: “Went and got the eggs today! Also picked up some flowers in Britton. So I took this pic there. Also if I haven’t told you
my mom is obsessed with your eggs! She’s loves them so much as do we. She’s like make sure you tell them how grateful I am!”

What wonderful feedback and picture shared by Shannon, an egg customer of our farm. We truly love the friends we are making through our farm adventures! We love hearing how our hen’s eggs make people happy, and how about those tulips!đŸŒ·đŸ„šđŸ’— It’s a blessing for our family to have such high quality food to nourish ourselves with, and an even greater joy to have an abundance of them to offer the community.

This is our 2nd year using The Farmer’s Almanac Garden Planner online, and I can’t say enough good things about it as a tool and resource. https://gardenplanner.almanac.com Part of permaculture is playing the long game, knowing that what you establish today won’t always offer an instant return. This requires thoughtful planning for each season, having an idea of what you’ve done and layering it with what you intend to do next year, 3 years from now, even 10 years from now. These plans still must remain fluid as we watch the landscape, always taking in feedback from the systems we set up, and adjusting as necessary. Whether you have a large or small project, this online program lets you play with ideas, plan, and becomes the blueprint for putting your plans in place step by step. Lay out your plantings and it will automatically populate how many plants can fit into the area you have. It tracks the irrigation plans as you map them out and will tell you how much you need of each component to install it. This only scratches the surface of its capability. Check it out for yourself!
