Tuckers Farm

Temperance, Michigan's own locally grown produce stand. The Tuckers Farm has been growing produce since 1919. We eat what we grow, so we are customers too!

Grandma and Grandpa Kosmatka moved the family here from Toledo in 1919. Their daughter Esther met and married Ed Tucker and they began farming together in 1939 on 55 acres. Esther and Ed's daughter Sandy met city-boy Bob Potter in 1972 and began making a farmer out of him! Sandy and Bob married in 1979 and began farming on their own, with daughter Meghan, in 2002. Meghan is now the 4th generation

of the same family, growing vegetables on the same family farm for over 100 years! We understand the importance of a clean and healthy food supply. We limit our use of chemical pesticides as much as possible and instead rely on good old-fashioned mechanical and hand methods, like cultivating, hoeing (Sandy and Meghan are best at this), and even pulling weeds on hands and knees (Bob's personal favorite)! We constructed our first hoop house (high tunnel) in 2011. Planted several cool-season crops inside (radishes, spinach, beets, turnips, salad mix, and lettuce mix) this fall and will harvest as long as possible into the winter! In 2012 we became environmentally verified by the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (for more info www.maeap.org). We are working with the US Department of Agrigulture's Natural Resources Conservation Service and our Conservation Plan includes crop rotation; residue, nutrient, and pest management; wildlife habitat management; windbreak establishment; composting; filter strips along the drainage ditch; and drip irrigation. The farm is now 15 acres and we grow a wide variety of produce, including:
Regular and roma tomatoes
Bell peppers (green, red, yellow, orange)
Sweet and hot bananna peppers
Jalapeno peppers
Cucumbers
Eggplant
Watermelons
Zucchini
Summer squash
Cousa squash
Green beans
Cabbage
Brussel sprouts
Carrots
Onions
Okra
Beets
Spinach
Kale

We experienced perfect weather conditions today, with sunshine and no wind, which facilitated our progress in the field, particularly in planting peppers and eggplant. The teamwork exhibited by Ezra, Micah, Leo, and Bob was outstanding.❤️
