Call Duck Egg Hatching Instructions
1. Let the shipped eggs rest at room temperature for 24-48 hours after receiving them. They should be kept pointy end down.
2. Set up the incubator at least 24 hours in advance of placing the eggs in it.
Incubator settings:
• Temperature = 99.5F to 100.5F
• Humidity = First 27 days 50-55%, Last 3 days (Lockdown) 70-75%
• Number of Incubation Days = 26-28
3. Skip this step if you have an automatic turner. On Days 1-24, each day hand turn the eggs 3 times a day.
TIP: Mark X and O on opposite sides (the long sides, not the top and bottom) of the eggs to make turning them easier.
For example:
Turn #1: turn eggs 180 degrees to X (all eggs show the X)
Turn #2: turn eggs 180 degrees to O (all eggs show the O)
Turn #3: turn eggs 180 degrees to X (all eggs show the X)
4. On any day between Days 7-10, candle each egg to see if they have started growing. You will see a small red dot with veins (very faint). If you are not sure, wait a day or two and candle again.
5. On Days 10-25, each day:
• Remove the incubator cover or pull out the egg bins, depending on your type of
incubator, for 10-15 minutes to cool the eggs.
• After 10-15 minutes, mist the eggs with warm water and replace the incubator cover or reinsert the egg bins into the incubator. Make sure to maintain correct temp and humidity.
6. On Day 26, start of lockdown:
• Remove or stop the automatic turner, if you have one.
• DO NOT TURN, COOL, or MIST the EGGS.
• Increase humidity to 70-72%.
On Days 26-28, the eggs will begin to hatch. Do not open the incubator unless it is absolutely necessary, as this could stunt or stop the hatching process.
7. Let the ducklings dry in the incubator for up to 72 hours before moving them to a warm brooder with food and drinking water.
Happy Hatching! Good Luck!
