Hey everyone! I’m on the board of our local CRAFT program, which has programs around the country focused on sustainable agriculture education for current and aspiring farmers. We’re going to be offering 10 free classes and events in 2025, but first we’re looking into what topics would best serve our community. Sustainable Market Farming by Pam Dawling has been one of my favorite winter reads so far. Her experience is in zone 7 in Virginia, so it is one of the few sources I’ve found specific to Southern growers. Full of practical, straightforward advice for crop planning, cover cropping, harvest, seed starting and more. The book also includes specifics on each crop with a lot of depth (separate chapter on fall and spring brassicas, for example). A great read for avid gardeners or small scale growers!
