Originally started in the reined cow horse before excelling in the roping arena, he embodies the kind of talent and willing mindset that we love to see passed on to the next generation.

Out of 𝐒𝐑𝐑 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐥, a big, sweet bay roan mare we were fortunate to get from Caiti at 7L Cross Livestock. Annie is strong, solid, and easy to be around. Caiti raises the "born broke" kind, and Annie was a proven producer in her program. We're excited to have her in our broodmare band and even more excited to see what she'll continue to raise for us here at 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡.

This c**t is already showing the eye appeal, substance, and kind disposition that make us optimistic about his future. We look forward to watching him mature and seeing where he ends up.

Sometimes the best parts of ranch life are the ones we don’t talk about enough.

We’ve spent a lot of time sharing the horses and foals lately, but it’s been a minute since we checked in on the 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡 Spanish goat herd.

This year they’ve had a super important job due to the massive drought we’ve had. We let them HAMMER around the shop, barn and houses, to mitigate fire danger and they’ve done a FANTASTIC job! 🔥 🛑 🐐

These goats are more than just another set of livestock to us. They’re hardy, adaptable, and built for the rugged country we call home. They help us make use of rough terrain, browse brush and weeds, and fit naturally into the way we manage the ranch.

One of the things we appreciate most about Spanish goats is their toughness. They thrive in conditions that can be challenging for many other breeds, and they do it with minimal fuss. That kind of resilience is something we value across every part of our operation.

So here’s a little update and a little appreciation post for a herd that quietly does its job every day. The Spanish goats may not always be front and center, but they’re an important piece of the Brewster Ranch story.

She is RESERVED & headed to California later this year. Hello Sunshine 🌟

By 𝐒𝐋𝐂 𝐋𝐈𝐋𝐎𝐒 𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐄 𝐁𝐔𝐂𝐊, a proven ranch stud that’s earned his keep the hard way — working feedlots, outside big mountain country, doctoring cattle, sorting, and loading. Lilo continues to be a go-to grab in a working ranch string, and his foals are consistently easy, kind, and willing — often joked to be “born broke.”

Out of 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐚, a mare with a solid build, great mind and extremely willing and kind demeanor. She’s a granddaughter of Short Go Luck, a Lucky Blanton-bred stallion who produced numerous champions including Red Mark Blanton, Wyoming Blanton, and Blantons Fast Time, with earnings across the roping and reining pens. These lines are well known for producing horses with good minds, cow sense, speed, and bone.

This filly is a perfect example of the kind of horses we are producing here at Brewster Ranch—we can't wait to see her grow into herself & thrive with her new family.

Just some thoughts on our breeding program and one tiny piece of how we choose stallions.

Maybe I’m approaching this too much like a cattlewoman, but when you’re buying bulls, what’s one of the first questions people ask?

“What’s their feed program?”

There’s no right or wrong answer.

Some programs are designed to showcase the absolute maximum a bull’s genetics can do. How big can he get? How much can he gain?

Other programs make them rough it a little more to prove they can develop, hold condition, and stay functional under less-than-ideal conditions.

It’s also important to remember that frame and weight are not the same thing.

You can have a huge-framed cow that weighs 1,300 pounds and is green as grass, and a moderate-framed cow that weighs 1,300 pounds and is carrying plenty of condition.

The same concept applies to stallions.

When I’m looking at a stud, I absolutely pay attention to weight. But I also try to put that number into perspective.

Most stallions standing at breeding barns are on excellent feed programs. And before anyone gets upset—this isn’t criticism. I use those programs, and those barns are fantastic to work with.

Their job is to keep those horses looking and feeling their best.

Let’s be honest, though—most stallions are carrying a little extra condition compared to a horse that’s getting used every day.

So if a stallion weighs 1,150 pounds while living on premium hay, grain, supplements, and a carefully managed program, I find myself asking:

What would he weigh at my place?

What would he weigh if he was getting ridden every day?

What would he look like after gathering cattle, dragging calves, branding, sorting pairs, or spending long days in rough country?

Because the reality is that around here, horses don’t live on a buffet of supplements.

They get good hay.

Maybe some oats during a hard stretch.

And they get miles.

Lots and lots of miles.

So if that stallion weighs 1,150 pounds in peak breeding-barn condition, maybe he’s really a 1,050-1,075 pound horse in working condition.

For some people, that’s perfect.

For me, it may not be.

It’s only one tiny piece of a much bigger puzzle, but it’s something I think about.

When I look at advertised weights, I mentally subtract about 100 pounds and ask myself:

“Is this still enough horse for the kind of work we do?”

Not everybody needs the same answer.

That’s just one of the many questions we ask when choosing stallions for our program!

This striking c**t is by 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐫, a beautiful, athletic, proven ranch sire that is a direct son of Merada IMA Boon, who has won $14k+ in the cutting pen.

On the bottom side, he’s out of a very stout, colored up, good minded, pretty mare, 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐲𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐞—a mare who is sired by the infamous 𝐏𝐂 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐧 (sired by the late Sun Frost who is a 3 million dollar sire & whose offspring have excelled through the western disciplines), out of a Mr Blu Jay Hancock daughter.
