River restoration continued 💧
In 2024 we installed over 1,000 pieces of wood into the Skookumchuck River. 🌲
Now that spring of 2026 gave us our first major flood, there are some areas showing un-intended erosion, this being one of those spots. Not a huge issue and was very much expected.
The construction contractor came back in last week and installed a “bank barb” which is just a fancy term for an engineered log jam put into the river bank. During high water events this will rack up additional wood/debris, and build up a solid pile to limit pressure on the erodible bank.
All these projects have mutual benefits, this particular bank-barb: Will limit silt for cleaner water, also creating new aquatic habitat. For us as the rancher, we get to keep our prime fertile grass growing soils they are and not watch them wash down to Aberdeen 🤙😎
