Some flowers are simply determined to steal the show.

Meet Otto's Thrill.

This beautiful dinnerplate dahlia is currently blooming in our fields, and as you can see, she's quite a bit larger than my hand.

With 600 dahlia plants growing at Fire Dancer Farm & Fields this season, there's no shortage of beautiful blooms to admire. But every once in a while, one stops us in our tracks.

Tonight, it was this one, catching the last of the golden-hour sunshine.

Just another little reminder of why we love growing flowers.

I walked out to the flower field this morning and realized just how long it had been since I’d really stopped to look at it.

The last few weeks have been filled with projects around home and all those things I’m trying to finish before the weather changes. Somewhere along the way, I haven’t spent nearly enough time among the flowers.

And yet, they’ve just kept growing.
Here we are in October, and there is still so much color, so much life, and so much beauty tucked into these rows.

It was a good reminder this morning that life gets busy. Seasons change. There will always be another project waiting.

But there are beautiful things all around us.

Sometimes we just have to stop long enough to notice them.

We remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We honor the courage of the first responders, the strength of the families who carried unimaginable loss, and the countless acts of kindness and humanity that followed.

There’s something about golden hour on the farm.

The work slows down, the light gets a little softer, and for a few minutes you can simply stand back and appreciate what has grown.

Seeds that went into the ground months ago have become rows of color. Empty spaces have filled in. And somehow, another season is already beginning to shift.

These are the evenings that make us want to linger just a little longer.

Sometimes it's okay to stand apart from the crowd.

A few weeks ago, this field was filled with sunflowers reaching toward the sky. Then the storms came through, and the season changed much faster than we were ready for.

And somehow, among all those tired and battered stems, there is this one.

Still blooming. Still reaching for the light. Still completely unconcerned that everyone around it is doing something different.

Maybe there's something worth remembering in that.

There are beautiful things all around us. Sometimes we just have to look a little harder to find them.

Around here, we call them mindful showers.

A little fresh eucalyptus, warm steam, and a few quiet minutes to slow down before stepping back into the day.

Sometimes the smallest rituals are the ones that make home feel a little more special.

Sometimes you just have to gather what the season gives you.

Late summer has a way of turning up the color, just as the season begins reminding us that it won't last forever.

Mother Nature, we weren't quite ready for sunflower season to end yet.

Last night's storm had other plans.

We woke up this morning to a field that looked very different than it did yesterday. So many of our sunflowers are down, bent, tangled and lying across the field after the storm moved through.

It's a hard sight after watching them grow from tiny seeds into this beautiful field.

But a few are still standing, reaching for the light.

And somehow, that feels like a pretty good reminder.
