🌿Vendor Spotlight: Southern Legacy Produce
Billy and Caren Prince of Terry, Mississippi, are the proud owners of Southern Legacy Produce, a farm rooted in tradition, family, and a lifelong love of fresh vegetables. Married for 43 years, the couple has gardened since childhood and continued the practice throughout their life together. What began as a way to feed their own family has grown into a meaningful venture to share healthy, homegrown produce with others.
After retiring, Caren from UMMC as an operating room nurse and Billy from Saia Motor Freight Line, they turned their focus to a three-acre garden in Utica that now keeps them busy year-round. This is their second season at Clinton’s Fresh at Five Market, and they also participate in two additional markets each week. Looking ahead, they hope to expand to even more.
Southern Legacy Produce offers a beautiful variety of vegetables, including heirloom and bush tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, green beans, purple hull peas, lima beans, eggplant, and a colorful selection of peppers. Their commitment to quality and freshness reflects their strong belief in the value of healthy food.
The Princes also stay active supporting their grandchildren in all-star cheer and motocross racing. They’re especially thankful for Kyle, a loyal helper whose assistance at the farm and markets allows them the freedom to spend more time with family.
“Our parents were both gardeners,” Caren says. “We just followed in their footsteps. We hope to keep the tradition going and help bring healthy food back into focus.”
