🛒 Farm Store open Thurs-Sun, 10a-6p We opened our first ever farm store with a desire to continue our history of supporting our local community.

Since opening, we’ve expanded from offering our own Kinloch Farm products to a curated market of goods from Virginian producers. Our store is located at the entry to rural Virginia, nestled within the fields our cattle graze, and just outside the historic town of The Plains. We carry a complete inventory of cuts of our grassfed, grass-finished beef and other select products from our farm. We hope

Thanks to our pedigreed genetic line, our bulls thrive eating nothing but hay and green grass!

In addition to selling beef, Kinloch Farm has sold our Aberdeen Angus bulls and genetics across the country. We have integrated a historic genetic line of cattle that are ecologically sustainable and provide a nutrient-dense, tasty, 100% grass-fed product to the consumer.

*HAY* YOU! Swipe for a very cute surprise....

As we come out of our winter season and spring has sprung, we want to talk a little bit about hay and our cattle. Our Aberdeen Angus cattle are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished which means that during the winter they are only fed hay.

Along with feeding hay back onto the fields that we cut the hay from, we’ll take a first cut only off of the field. The first cutting is stemmier, but also contains the seedheads of the grasses and legumes. We use this to our advantage when feeding and roll out the hay in the fields where it was cut. This helps to re-seed the field and deposit nutrients across the entirety of the field. It’s a clean and effective way to feed a large number of animals in the field. Whatever hay is left on the field after feeding is organic material to feed the microbes in our soil biome.

We’re fortunate enough to have many large hay fields at Kinloch that are cut and baled during the warmer months. We are not the only ones who use those field though... they’re also home to hundreds of migratory grassland birds who build their nests in the tall grass. That’s where Virginia Working Landscapes comes in! We follow their guidance on when it’s best to cut the hay in order to give the birds time to hatch their eggs and fledge their young—and in some native meadows we don’t hay at all.

For more information on best practices for haying while still protecting our grassland birds, please look into the work of Dr. Amy Johnson and her team at Virginia Working Landscapes are doing.

Hi friends, we are now officially on Facebook and Instagram!

Check out our accounts to see the latest happenings on our historic working farm in Virginia. We are focused on our unique line of grass-fed Aberdeen Angus cattle, a small but growing apiary, and the conservation of the land that supports these ventures.

We have many exciting things coming in 2022 including opening a farm store at the Archwood Green Barns for direct-to-consumer sales, increasing our conservation efforts in conjunction with our partner organizations including Virginia Working Landscapes and The Clifton Institute, increasing our apiary production, formally unveiling our new logo and launching our website, and more.

Make sure to give us a follow to stay up to date on the above and more. We can’t wait to start this next chapter of Kinloch Farm with you!
