We opened our first ever farm store with a desire to continue our history of supporting our local community. Since opening, we’ve expanded from offering our own Kinloch Farm products to a curated market of goods from Virginian producers. Our store is located at the entry to rural Virginia, nestled within the fields our cattle graze, and just outside the historic town of The Plains. We carry a comp

lete inventory of cuts of our grassfed, grass-finished beef and other select products from our farm. We hope that you will stop by our store and continue on to visit the shops, restaurants, and attractions of our town and community. We also encourage you to come further support Virginia farmers on Sundays from 10am to 2pm when we share our location with the long-standing Archwood Green Barns Farmers’ Market.

Agriculture, conservation, and science coming together!

Through endeavors like Project Avalanche by Ecdysis Foundation, farms like ours are getting the training, tools, and data they need to measure the outcomes of their shared commitment to improving soil health, environmental health, and human health with the food they produce.

Our farm and conservation teams worked together to conduct our first yearly Avalanche monitoring, where they collected samples of cattle forage, insects, and even birdsong while documenting factors plant biomass, soil compaction, water infiltration, and more.

We are one of several farms in our area participating and one of thousands that Ecdysis has empowered worldwide!

Here's an appreciation post for the humble polywire, which is crucial to our adaptive grazing program.

With this simple and effective tool, our farm team regeneratively manages the grazing of our cattle herd by making portable fences. This puts the herd in the right place at the right time, for the right reasons: in target areas while they get to enjoy their favorite plants!

Bovines and butterflies?

That’s right! Healthy pastures are healthy habitats, feeding not just our beef cattle, but a wide variety of beneficial organisms: including butterflies!

Kinloch Farm recently hosted The Clifton Institute for their 30th annual butterfly count, a research project with North American Butterfly Association (NABA).

Some of the species (pictured) that were documented include the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Pearl Crescent, and Eastern Tailed-Blue.

The farm is abundant in these butterflies' host plants, including legumes, asters, and trees, many of which are actively seeded by our conservation team.

Our restoration practitioner, Megan Crapo, shares:

“With our plant species diversity, quality of habitat, and management practices, it’s exciting to see that what we are doing at Kinloch is supporting native pollinators and other wildlife!”
