Remember when I sent off DNA to figure out who sired Chili’s doeling? Well, guess whaaattt?? I got the results back!

Here’s my Maury Povich moment 😅
In the case of Chili’s 6 week old doeling, Bern…. you ARE the father!

These are the results I was hoping for! As most of you know, this was our last year using Bern, and he really went out with a bang giving us doelings this year. I’m thrilled to have a third daughter to retain this year and now we have a junior get of sire! We’ve never been able to show in the Get of Sire class so I’m excited to be able to for the first time this year. (To be able to show in the Get Of Sire class, you must have 3 does with the same sire)

Some of you may notice the results were issued on May 4th 🫣🙃 I’ve been waiting on these DNA results thinking they were going to take a minimum of 24 days, when they’ve literally been in my inbox since May freaking 4th 🤣 somehow I missed the email and today I went searching for my submission email to see how long it’d been, and there it was!

Now that I know who her sire is, I can finally name her. I have a few ideas floating around, but if you have any suggestions let me know! I was trying to stick with spices because her dam is Chili, but I’ve also been trying to incorporate “Bern” into his daughters names 🤔 so far, I haven’t figured out how to incorporate both for her name

Bern’s other two daughters this year are:
🌙 MVN FTB Til The Stars Bern Out (pending)
🌙 MVN FTB Bern The Midnight Oil (pending)
(Their dam is Luna)

Oh, the joys of farming 🫣

Bluey and Freya met a spicy forest cat some time early this morning for the first time (and hopefully last time)!

Freya had it much worse with quills under and in her tongue, Bluey just had a few in the roof of her mouth. Which makes sense because Bluey is a big ole scaredy cat and usually lets Freya stand at the front line of defense 🤣 But they’re all out now and the girls are much happier (especially Freya)!

Thankfully Tegan and Dad were around to help because I wouldn’t have been able to do that by myself 😅

Now to start milking!

⭐️🇺🇸 Memorial Day Sale! 🇺🇸⭐️ 🤪

We have wethers/unregistered bucklings available! Discount if you take all 3 or discount if you can pick up this weekend!

The younger two are 2 weeks old so will need to be on milk for another 6 weeks at least. The older one is weaning off the lambar now and is so, so sweet. He is affectionately named Guppy because when he sees people coming he starts darting around the pen like a spazzy little fish. He LOVES people and thinks we’re his “mama.” If he was a doeling I’d probably keep him even though his genetics aren’t anything special, I’m just a huge sucker for those velcro, puppy-dog-personality goats 🥹 I’d love to find him a super special forever home. He’s easily our most social kid this year! Admittedly, he’s been a bit spoiled here and gets extra time outside the pen during chores. He follows us everywhere and doesn’t like when he can’t see us (unless he’s with the other goat kids, then he’s okay). He would be really happy in a home where he can hang out with his people a bunch!

The younger two haven’t had their CDT yet but Guppy has. All are disbudded. Guppy is recently banded, the other two can come back at 8 weeks old or later for no extra charge and get banded by us. CAE negative herd.

Reach out if you’re interested!

Oh my word 🥹

Sometimes KK leaves me little surprises to find in the milk room in the mornings. Lately she’s been writing notes on the white board and asking me questions with directions to respond to them 😅

This morning she left me a couple projects she made at school. She said that the girl is me with my pink Nubian sweatshirt on. She even wrote “Nubian” in clay on the front!

I’ll have to find a permanent place for them to live in the milk room! 🥹

Here he is!

I truly feel like the stars aligned for him to end up in our herd. He was born in Oregon and moved with his family across the country to New York a few years ago. Last year I stumbled across some of his daughters for sale and at the time I couldn’t make the trip work to pick any of them up. But I never stopped thinking about him. I followed their page and watched for updates. When I saw he was for sale my stomach jumped in my throat and I immediately reached out. The post was 6 hrs old by the time I saw it, and I was sitting on pins and needles waiting for a reply to see if he was still available. It literally felt like HOURS waiting for a reply when in reality it was a whopping 26 minutes 🤣 Needless to say, he was available and the rest is history!

Lots of firsts today!

We went to our first show of the year, and first ever buck show. We also won our first ever ROSETTES! Our new senior buck made us proud today and brought home 3 fancy new ribbons. He went 1x reserve champion, and 2x grand champion. All he needs is one more leg (champion win) to become a permanent champion!

I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to own this buck and can’t wait to see the impact he has on our herd. I’ll make an official intro post about him soon I promise 🫣

(Light also won junior grand champion 1x today, but it was a combined show so the juniors didn’t count 🤪)

We’ve had 4 babies born since Saturday! 3 doelings and 1 buckling 🫢

The last two were a surprise due to another failed CDIR 😅🤦🏼‍♀️ We bought Beornings Kiskadee (aka Kissy) on December 6th of last year. The seller let us know that she broke into the buck pen the week prior but didn’t think she was in heat. I wasn’t too worried because we had plans to CIDR her and breed her to Light, so if she was bred the CIDR should’ve made her loose the pregnancy and come into heat. We CIDRd her a couple weeks later and put her in with Light for several weeks. I never saw her cycle but I never saw any of the girls we CIDRd cycle so just figured I missed it. She started growing a belly so I thought she must’ve gotten bred by him. Then I walked into the barn this afternoon and she had a bubble hanging out of her and gave birth to two spotted kids shortly after 😅 I’m glad I walked into the barn when I did! The timeline and the spotted kids tells me she got bred by the spotted Nubian at her old place 🤦🏼‍♀️ oh well! At least they’re cute. They can’t be registered so they’ll be available as pets (the buckling will be wethered). Next year I’ll try again for some nice registered kids out of her! 🫣
