If you haven't been out to Gibson Produce, you should come check it out. The asparagus season will soon be over. There are local Burlat cherries, zucchini, salad garlic and beets. Soon there will be much, much more. Plan ahead if you are a hot sauce lover. Here is a recipe to try when all of those local hot peppers start coming off the plants! http://www.freshbitesdaily.com/sriracha/

With Sriracha being one of the hot sauces that caught our fancy lately, it made sense to try brewing some with our garden vegetables. Finding clear directions and written encouragement from Sean Timberlake (here) sealed the deal. Of the several renditions of hot sauce from this summer’s canning adve…

Update: Gibson Produce. We're moving to exit 115 (Kittitas) Off I-90. Opening May. Our phone number is 509-929-2408. The superior court ruled totally in favor of Thorp Fruit. Which means we don't get our Conditional Use Permit. But this isn't stopping us. It's making us more determined to make this new location a great fruitstand. Looking forward to seeing everyone in May.

“The first supermarket supposedly appeared on the American landscape in 1946. That is not very long ago. Until then, where was all the food? Dear folks, the food was in homes, gardens, local fields, and forests. It was near kitchens, near tables, near bedsides. It was in the pantry, the cellar, the backyard.” ― Joel Salatin

Status Update
By Kathy Christman
Update Gibson Produce
The Board Of County Commissioners has approved and signed our Conditional Use Permit. There's a few things we need to get done before we can open. We're hoping to get open by the end of September and stay open through October. Hopefully a little longer weather permitting. At this time we're still getting fresh tomatoes, pumpkins, apples, squash, peppers, onions and lots of other produce at least until the frost hits. We would like to thank everyone for their support during this down time. Without all your support this might not of happened. This decision has been appealed to the superior court by Thorp Antique Mall. So down the road we will be dealing with that issue. But for now you can call me (Kathy) at 509-929-2408 if you have any questions. It will be nice seeing everyone.

The Board of County Commissioners has approved the conditional use permit. Yay! There are things that still have to be done before Gibson Produce can reopen as they are conditions of the permit. We will keep you posted :)

Good news. The KC Hearing Examiner has recommended that the KC Board of Commissioners approve the CUP for Gibson Produce. Now hopefully it will be a short wait for the BOC to approve it and Kathy can get Gibson Produce open soon :)

Just a reminder. There will be a meeting at the Court House in the commissioners' auditorium at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in front of the Hearing Examiner concerning the conditional use permit for Gibson Produce. If you can make it, please come and show your support for Kathy and Terry Christman in their quest to reopen Gibson Produce :)

An old idea is taking root again—local food. Movements are growing around the country to grow, produce and consume food on a localized basis instead of relying on the centralized system that has taken over since the mid nineteenth century. Now, this doesn’t mean we will...
