Canard-Duchêne Iconic Blanc de Noirs: Ch*****ne made from red grapes, with a little more depth and richness than you might expect. A lovely way to start an autumn evening.

Dourthe Sauvignon Blanc: Bright and fresh from Bordeaux, the white to keep on hand for weeknight dinners.

Château Reysson Haut-Médoc: A classic Bordeaux red, ready for roasts, stews, and the first fire of the season.

We always look forward to Michael’s visits, and we can’t wait to share these w**es with you.

Time to officially welcome fall.

This Wednesday is the last Up On A Hill of the year. Liam Kazar, longtime member of Jeff Tweedy's touring band, on a hillside in New Buffalo, with the light going down over eighteen acres and a tent full of people who decided to come.

It's our night for Teachers, hosted by the New Buffalo Community Education Foundation and we've brought the price down so you can bring someone: $25 general admission, $50 reserved.

Gates at 4. Music at 6. Apple Blossom Resort.

An hour from Chicago, minutes from Three Oaks, and the best possible reason to be outside at the end of September.

for September **eClub is here!

There’s something about the feel of the air when September arrives that tells me it’s time to chill things down in life. I call it second summer, one of our favorite stretches of the year. The beaches are quieter, the sunsets come earlier and lower, and a welcome freshness returns to the air.
 
Each of these three w**es reminds me of seeing things in a new light. Every one of these bottles lives in the shadow of a bigger w**e made in the same cellar. Chianti Classico made its name on Sangiovese built to age for decades, and this month it gives us the more easygoing rosato. Oregon’s Willamette Valley is Pinot Noir country, but this month ours is Gamay. Valpolicella is the home of Amarone, one of Italy’s most concentrated reds, yet this second-summer bottle selected for you is pale enough to read a label through.
 
So: fridge first. An hour for the rosato, twenty minutes or so for the two reds. If a red comes out tasting tight, leave it in the glass a few minutes and it will open right up.
 
One last thing. It’s September, which means all three of these families are in the vines right now, or about to be. We get the easy bottles and a chair in the sun. They get the picking bins and the crush pad. Worth a glass raised in their direction.
