18 New Mexico Dahl exposed ewes. 3-5 years old. 300 each. +1 unrelated ram lamb, if desired.

We’ve split our flock of rare New Mexico Dahl breeding ewes and they’re up for sale. They are exceptionally hardy and disease resistant, and have been intensively managed for daily moves. Well-adapted to heat and poor forage, LGD, and electric netting and poly-wire. Never wormed. Closed-flock. All ewes are 3-5 years old, have been exposed and are due late November.

These horned hair sheep are from the foundation Terra Patre flock in Belen, New Mexico, and can be easily registered with the United Horned Hair Sheep Association.

We are firm on 300 each. A lot of energy has gone into making this a highly productive and resilient set of animals. You source and pay for hauling, we’ll perform a standard vet and scrapie check.

At Grouse Creek Farm, located along the historic Cahoon Ditch in Three Rivers, California, we are working hard to:

1. Preserve working landscapes in the Kaweah River drainage.

2. Promote the importance of traditional irrigation systems for ecosystem services and scalable groundwater recharge for rural communities.

3. Protect and maintain biodiversity and wildlife habitat within foothill woodland and grassland agroecosystems.

4. Native seed collection and contract growing under natural selection pressures (I.e. grazing, prescribed fire) for genetic adaptation to an uncertain future.

5. Maintain genetically rare “heritage” grazing animals as ecosystem engineers, and as a proxy for historic levels of native herbivores on rangeland restoration.
