Fun Fact Friday: What is called a horn is mostly three components. The outer shell is a high protein substance with very similar elements to fingernails and hair. Inside is a porous bone of a high percent calcium. Inside the bone is a flowing blood supply. The bigger horns have more blood supply than the smaller ones. This blood flow keeps the steer's horns from freezing during winter months.
