💜 My mother, Ruth Miller, was the inspiration behind our new Classic Sugar Cookie.
Her sugar cookie recipe was a favorite of the grandkids, and they loved helping her roll out the dough, cut it into shapes with her myriad cookie cutters, and sprinkle on colored sugar before baking. In this photo, our son Alex and his Gram are making sugar cookies in her kitchen.
🎅🏻 On Christmas Eve the grandsons visiting Gram and Grandpa Miller from the East Coast would set out a plate of Gram’s sugar cookies for Santa. As the boys raced around the house full of Christmas exuberance, Santa’s cookies would mysteriously disappear one by one, followed by giggles from under the stairs where the grandsons loved to hide with their cookie stash.
My sugar cookie is a little different from Mom’s – while she rolled out her dough and used cookie cutters, mine is a drop cookie that’s rounded into a ball and rolled in a mixture of granulated sugar and sparkling decorating sugar.
Like my mom’s sugar cookies, there’s no frosting involved – the vanilla dough (with extra vanilla) and sugar coating provide the sweetness you look for in a simple but delicious sugar cookie.
🎄For holidays, I’ll switch out the white decorating sugar for colors: watch for Fall Sugar Cookies in October and Festive Sugar Cookies in December. And in the new year, you’ll be able to add sugar cookies to your large order and choose your own color(s) of sparkling decorating sugar!
🎉We’ll call it the Celebration Sugar Cookie – and I’ll think of Mom every time I make them.
