The rooster out keeping an eye on his ladies

It's not a milking day today, so 5am view before farm chores. Got to keep the cardio up for the next big pig escape!

I was wrong....

The pink pigs were not ready for the woods! Shortly after letting them in with the rest of the pigs, they blew through the electric fence. Starting a chase that lasted the next two hours! After a lot of running around, slipping in manure, climbing through pricker bushes, and trudging through mud, we finally got them back in to where they started.

It was my fault. We have always had great results with pigs in electric, but i rushed the training. So they are back in the holding pen with a training line until they have a better understanding of what that little string does.

The 5am view!

Everyone is out and enjoying the weather!

The 4 red pigs are out rooting in the woods as always and the 3 new pink pigs are eagerly waiting to joing them. We will probably let the pink pigs into the woods tomorrow as it seems they have figured out the electric already.

Cows and goats are fed and happy. Poppy is separated for the night so that we can collect our milk in the morning.

Cozied up on this brisk October morning!

Brought home 3 new pigs to finish for butcher this winter! Usually we only get piglets, but these pigs were started the same way we raise ours and will transfer into our pigs program great. They will spend a couple days in the holding pen to learn the electric fence and become familiar with our farm. Then they will move into the woods pasture with the rest of the pigs to finish growing!

Rain or shine, we get the work done when we can. Snuck in an hour after work to get the last strand of high-tensile strung out to finish up our summer fencing project. No more white poly-wire strung all through our woods! Sometimes a project that can be done in 3 days, ends up taking us all summer. Thats just how it goes. Now we have multiple, secure, paddocks that we can rotate and graze the animals as we see fit. Its a satisfying feeling.
