This was never meant to be a business that gets big. It was meant to stay honest. Farming has introduced us to the most helpful, kind, caring and simply amazing community.

If you already want pasture, natural feed, sunlight and time from your beef, there's no real reason not to want the same from your pork. Scaling the way industrial farms do means trading all of that away for speed. We'd rather stay small and keep great nutrient dense protein going to our friends and family. That’s raised with love everyday ♥️ Our mamas all have names and get 247 midwife support for the first week of life. When you have a 400-600lb mama pig that cracks a watermelon or pumpkin in one chomp you want to make sure they like you and are friendly. The piglets are use to being handled and cuddled from the day they are born. Even when they get big and are ready for harvest they coming running when we come to their pens.

I had a great chat with a customer last week. They are thinking of raising their own hogs and wanted to know how long it’s taking us to grow out. From the time we breed to harvest is about 12 -13 months then add a month for the processing time before the bacon is ready for your kitchen table. We care about quality of life vs time to harvest.

Right now every pen has a huge wallow mini ponds really and the piglets are dirty because they don’t sweat so a mud bath is perfect for staying cool in the summer. Watching the piglets race around their pens kicking up their heels makes us smile.

It’s that what farming should be something that brings joy every day.

Our piggies eat A-LOT of fruit and 🥗 🍉 🍍 this means they still get traditional hog food but if you have free choice and run and play all day. You grow lean. Berkshire pork raised with lots of fruit and veggies tastes sweet so sweet we keep getting calls from the places we sell to about how much sugar we are adding to the ground pork. The answer is NONE that is the way small farm food tastes.

What’s for dinner??? We are doubling down our families effort to eat local. Tonight’s grilled cheese is with sour dough from Market Street Bakery and Cafe'. This is a new favorite there is something so cool about watching them send your bread through the slicer machine. We are upgrading our grill cheese to fresh mozzarella, basil and our favorite sandwich microgreen blend from Moms Micro Garden and Urban Farm

We have lots of people talk about price of shopping local. Just wanted to reshare and throw this info graphic out there.
