Do you recognize our back parking lot? It's a lot different without all of the trees lining it. The trees were removed this past Monday and the stumps were ground up on Tuesday. (You'll probably also recognize that unfortunately the potholes are still there. More on that in a bit.)
As you may know, since we bought our building around 5 years ago, after almost 30 years of renting it, we've steadily been involved in improving its infrastructure. The most noticeable improvements probably have been the new freezers, coolers, produce racks, and roof; all of which were completed within the past two years. And just last month we had new commercial-sized seamless gutters and downspouts installed.
But there are still things that need to be fixed, and/or improved. That's where the removal of all of the large trees around the perimeter of the parking lot comes in. While we liked the shade that the trees provided us, it was necessary for them to come down in order for the work on the next major project to begin - and it's a project that many of you have wished for, for years and years.
We're glad to announce that after over a year of discussion and groundwork, we should have a *new* parking lot sometime this fall! :)
This new parking lot will not only have a nice smooth surface, but all of the potholes will have been patched before the new surface is laid. :)
Please note that while the parking lot is being repaved, it will need to be closed to allow the workers and equipment space to do the job. But the store will remain open, and there are lots of parking spots near the co-op. As we get closer to the actual start of the project we'll let you know about all of those details. So stay tuned! And many thanks for supporting your neighborhood co-op.
