🇨🇿 Grill party with the producers of in Moravia, Czech Republic.

⛰️ This area around the protected Pálava Hill is a ‘Grand Cru’ for the grape known locally as Ryzlynk Vlasšky (Graševina, Welschriesling, Olaszrizling). You’ll occasionally find delicious Pinot Noir, Grüner, and Pinot Blanc.

😍 The wines are excellent for acid-lovers with vibrant fruity and mineral flavors. The wines offer tremendous value as many come in uner €15! This place is a MUST visit for wine grape hunters.

🇸🇮 Back to one of my favorites in Slovenia!

🥂 is a biodynamic producer of macerated whites and brilliant reds esp Pinot Noirs. The new vintage of 24’ Bela is now an easier drinking style that still maintains it’s fabulous texture. It’s a blend of Malvazija Istarska, Grasica, & Rebula macerated for several days in a reductive environment. If you want a step up in concentration, I recommend the Stranice.

🍷 Some vintages of his Pinot Noir are show-stoppers and the 23’ follows that path with its forest berries and earthy tones. I tasted 24’ from cask and it could be even better when finished!

🥇 First day of .competition which is dedicated to a grape of many monikers - Welschriesling, Graševina, Olaszrizling, Grašac, Laški Rizling, Vlasšky Rizling

🇨🇿 This year it is in the Czech Republic - homeland of my father’s side. During the opening evening Klara & .setka introduced Czech wines - some were excellent.

🥂 I loved the biscuity bubbles by the spicy Grüner Veltliner by the bright, fruity Ryzlink Vlasšky by Mikrosvin & the biodynamic example by . The structured Blaufränkish by was also a pleasant surprise!

🤯 Possibly the BEST meal I’ve had this year…

🇸🇮 I’ve spent several weeks in Italy over the last two months, but it’s Slovenia that has knocked it out of the park for me.

🍽️ This is my fourth time to and while I’ve always found it fun & dependable, this dinner took it to a whole new level. It is a honest, affordable restaurant that sits on the main road in Vipava Valley.

😋 The deep fried zucchini flower was succulent and the ravoli that combined asparguus cream and strawberry foam was a combo I’ve never experienced before. Even the steak was transformed into something unique with fresh cherry dressing.

🥂 .tence did wonders with the pairings and introduced me to a new producer - the Furlan White blend is a masterful take on macerated wine with its texture. The sparkling wine from the biodynamic producer is always excellent and the aged Merlot from paired perfectly with the meat.

🍷 I’ve had so many memorable meals at Gostlinas in Slovenia and this was one that I’ll never forget!

🇸🇮 What a treat to spend the afternoon with Domen of in Vipava, Slovenia

😊 I first came across these wines many years ago and started following them as they progressed. In a land of macerated wines, these whites are made fresh and crispy.

🥂 I’m a fan of the zippy Zelen - a variety unique to the valley and their rich Malvazija. Their Fino white has long captured my attention, it used to be a blend but now is solely Welschriesling that spends five days on the skins.

🍷 Domen is proud of their Merlot and Fino (Bdx Blend) but the real showstopper for me is the Cabernet Franc. It is true to the variety with spicy notes and just a touch of capsicum. We opened a 13’ and it was astonishing - truly a world-class example of one of my favorite varieties.

😜 Don’t worry - I picked up a bottle for you to taste!
