David and Janet Kollas run Kollas Orchard, located in Tolland, Connecticut Now, more than 30 years later, that is still what we are doing.

Kollas Orchard is a small, specialized apple orchard begun in 1975 to test my ideas on how orcharding in New England might be made more attractive as an occupation and family business. Our location is northcentral Connecticut, about 15 miles east of Hartford, a mile south of Interstate Hwy. 84, at an elevation of just over 800 feet. The soil is fine sandy loam, abundantly supplied with stones. We

are a husband-wife team. I retired from the University of Connecticut after 30 years as Extension Fruit Specialist. Janet is a retired elementary school teacher, who “always wanted to live on a farm.”

The sun is setting on this season’s apple crop! We will be open just four more days:
Saturday & Sunday November 29 & 30 and Saturday & Sunday December 6 & 7 from 12 noon to 4.
Thank you for your friendship and we look forward to a longer season next fall.

Our beautiful fruit trees have lost their fruit…and our stored apple supply is disappearing.
Sales continue this weekend Saturday and Sunday 10 to 5.
Thanksgiving Week: Monday and Tuesday 3 to 5; Wednesday 1 to 5.
After Thanksgiving we will be open Saturdays and Sundays only 12 noon to 4.
We expect after Thanksgiving to have only one variety…Macoun.
