We decided to step out of our comfort zone a bit this year and sent a couple bull calves to the Midland Bull Test
Jaden and JaiCe (middle & youngest Js) hauled the bulls out to Montana earlier this month with their backseat riders, Tank & Sig.

IIIJ SMOKIN BUC NIZER BN68 (Next Gen 195B Smoke Stack 183 x Next Gen 81E Lady 500 ET)

Both bulls are Harvie Smoke Stack grandsons and out of cows that have always made good calves for us. These fellas came out unassisted with 90lbs birthweights, weaned at 600-650lbs at 6 months old, and are free of all genetic defects. Their dams also pseudo-adopted our bottle-fed calf (Olive) this year, oftentimes feeding her and their own calf at the same time with no noticeable detriment to the bulls.

We are excited to see how the boys will perform out west!

It's been a little over 10 years since we've had a new cattle dog on the farm. Even then, we didn't have much for cattle either, just a couple feeder steers and some horses.
JaiCe Maas put Sig on the cattle today, and we think he just might turn into something🤞

Jaden Maas (the 2nd J) won 1st Place in People's Choice AND 2nd Place by Celebrity Judge scoring in the local Steak Cook Off today!

Adam & Jess (the eldest J) won Best Appetizer 🏆 at their seasonal campground this weekend serving Hereford Beef (last year's steer)....using the recipe below!
❄️We recommend cutting your beef into cubes while it's slightly frozen and marinating overnight!
🐂 sirloin & tenderloin cuts

This Thai chili spiced beef is better than a ride in a Tuk-tuk. Fiery flavor will still have your guests screaming and shouting-- for more meat.

Quick little photo dump😁

The black baldy(Olive) IS a twin, just not with the udder-brother next to her😂
Olive was a rejected twin that we were bottle feeding. Once a few more calves were born and the whole group moved to the Mooternity Ward, a couple of cows took to feeding her, then Olive weaned herself off the bottle in favor of her adopted moms🤷‍♀️
