Check out my IG post this week with pics of the flowers that are currently in season.

Here are some pics from the gardens showing what's coming up next, including Molokhia (Egyptian spinach), Mouse Melons, Sweety Drop Peppers, and Habanada Peppers (no heat habaneros)... As always, detailed descriptions with each pic.

I harvested a lot of root crops today for the Tomball Farmers Market this Saturday, May 30. You can check out those pics on my IG post from today.

The sad news is that strawberry and blueberry season is slowing down (1 more week of strawberries?, and 2 more weeks of blueberries), but the good news is that tomato season is ramping up. I'm propagating blueberry plants from green cuttings so I have plants late next year for a second blueberry bed.

As always, attached pics have detailed descriptions.

Some pictures from the farm this week.

Thankfully, so far, the heavy rains this week have been to the south of us, so our gardens have been unaffected. Even with heavy rains, our raised beds and raised rows usually get us through. Keeping our fingers crossed for us and for others further south.

While in the orchard today, I noticed a lot of damaged and half-eaten peaches on the ground around the young 'Tex King' peach tree (just 2 years old).

I harvested any that had started turning the golden color we associate with peaches. This means they have what they need to ripen sitting on the counter for 3-5 days (away from the raccoons and possums that have been stealing them). :-)

I'll have about 25 lbs of these at the market this week. None of my other (high chill hour) peaches produced much of anything this year, so this is the only week I'll have peaches this season.

I've also included a few other garden pics, including the first harvest of 'Dragon's Tongue' beans. As always, descriptions included with each pic.

An extra early post this week, while waiting for jury selection on a Monday morning. lol!

Over the last 2 weeks, I’ve been harvesting and curing 1015 sweet and TX early white onions to have available by next week.

I’ve also got TONS of celery still in the gardens, including the 2 rows shown here. I’ll harvest a LOT more celery for this week’s Tomball Farmers Market, so if you missed out last week, I’ve got you covered!

Lots of pics of the fruits and veggies from the orchard and gardens at Rain Song Farm.

The yoyo-ing weather keeps things interesting. We are looking forward to a low of 50 deg on Sunday morning!

Some pics of the goodies harvested on Thursday for the Tomball Farmers Market on Saturday.

This was a "housekeeping" week for the gardens. I trimmed all tomato plants and about half of the peppers and eggplants. For the tomatoes, I removed all low branches and leaves to allow good air circulation around the plants. For the eggplants and peppers, I removed all low growth and extra low branches, so the plants will concentrate their energy into a main trunk (that will branch further from the ground). Before and after pics included below (with descriptions). I'll include more details about this in the weekly email newsletter.

So much growing in the gardens now!

I got all ginger, mango ginger, turmeric (yellow and black), and galangal planted, as well as mouse melons, more cucumbers, and summer herbs. I spent most of Wednesday mulching the rows and beds I planted over the last week.

Here are some pics from the garden this week.

April means it's time to plant ginger, turmeric, galangal, etc. I got the last yellow turmeric of the season harvested early this week to get the bed ready for ginger. I've included a few pics of the process.

After this, I won't have turmeric again until November(ish), so stock up now. Freeze it whole (or in small pieces for juicing) for long storage (1-2 years).

For those of you who are growing your own ginger and/or turmeric, don't water until you see shoots emerge from the soil. This usually happens by the first or second week of May in this area. I'll have more of the yellow turmeric starts at the Tomball Farmers Market this Saturday, April 11th.

Here are a few pics of showing the start of our strawberry and blueberry season. If you'd like a virtual tour of the farm, I just posted an 8-minute video of the orchard garden, main garden, and old gardens showing what's growing.
